I really like the Kiri to Mayu and Macabre remakes as well. But I love the the originals of those as well.

I knew I forgot one. Yeah MACABRE’s awesome. I think HYDRA -666- is the only remake I thought was better than the original. The other remakes I either liked both (i.e. Kasumi) or preferred the original (i.e. OBSCURE)

Having listened to the album twice over, it gets better each time. I'm enjoying the hell out of this.

Also after reading this (http://kyotakumrau.tumblr.com/post/178454223487/phy-vol13-interview-with-kyo-you-can-get-the) and listening to it, it gave a lot more context to the album.

"Having listened to the album twice over, it gets better each time. I'm enjoying the hell out of this."

I can agree with that. I'm enjoying the album more and more w/each listen but there's still a few songs that haven't sit well w/me yet (Rubbish Heap and Values Of Madness).

This album is bringing me back full circle in a way for me cause I'm thinking back to when I first got into DEG a few years back and remembering how I wasn't sure exactly what to think of what I heard but then fast forward a few months later I revisited it and it finally clicked with me. In fact, nearly all if not the entire DEG discography, I had a similar reaction but eventually I grew to love them all ('cept Macabre the studio album; live it's awesome). So yeah, I admit I was very much in "panic mode" leading up to this album, but the end result is that it's a good album.

@AcmeApathyAmok, I think this is gonna be one of those albums that it may not hit your spot instantly but progressively growing on you. I was taken slightly aback with value of madness, however, after 3rd listen, I cannot get enough out of it especially towards the end. Yes, rubbish heap, keibetsu to hajimari, values of madness they're not easy but give 'em a chance and they are so vital to this album

Again, I'm extremely happy and grateful this album came out, for me the 3 years and 9 months were worth the wait. I wasn't expecting anything along the line of Uroboros, DSS or Arche(my favourite is still Kisou for its experimental spirit) and the surprise was better than expected. Ranunculus in this album has finally established its true meaning when it wasn't apparent in the singles release before the album. Whatever people think of this album, this is a complete album, and looking ahead in the future. For now, I'm gonna listen to this with the best ear buds I got and study its sound and enjoy the whole thing!

This is hardly the first DEG that's polarizing to the fanbase, and definitely not the first that's a grower. They've made so many changes over the years. Fans lamented when they moved on from visual kei, fans were pissed when Marrow of Bone came out when DEG were said to be "Americanizing" their sound. Hell, some even hated DSS. I bet some people didn't even like the transition from Gauze to Macabre. DEG is just one of those bands, I think. That said, I've enjoyed this album a lot so far.

@Lefuet: You weren’t kidding about it being a progressive grower of an album. Just finished my recent run through of the album and those songs I was a bit iffy about, I’m now appreciating whether it’s the vocals, intent, etc. the band had for the song. I think it’s time for a rating bump.

All excellent points, FadedSun. Totally spot on about the initial backlash from Gauze to Macabre cause I can definitely see why (I think I’m due to revisit Macabre and see if I can appreciate the album studio wise as oppose to it live) For me, this was the strongest initial reaction I got from a new DEG album...even more so than what ARCHE did for me which I loved from the initial listen and has remained a top 5 album for me.
