Yeah, they have been lacking the atmospherics department for a while now.

Very true. They brought back the vampire lyrical themes on Godspeed, now if they could just get the atmosphere back that they had on the early albums then I'll be completely satisfied.

Same, they would make me very happy by doing that

Well hopefully these bastards can get it together and bring back all the elements that made them really great.

I hope so too, but at the same time i'm also very skeptical

Yeah I am too. They always say what the new album will sound like, and while it's always somewhat accurate, it's never completely what they say it'll be. We'll just have to see what happens I guess. After they brought back all the vampire themes though I have faith that they can still make another album like the early ones. Won't be as good as any of the first 4 or 5 albums probably, but I'm sure they could pull it off.

It is to me. Vempire isn't too far behind though and Principle, Cruelty, and Midian aren't too far behind that.

It's between this and Cruelty for me

The first 5 albums are all pretty much amazing for me. Dusk and Vempire are definitely my first 2 and then Principle, Cruelty, and Midian all change for me. Just depends on what I'm in the mood for.

yeah same for me but Dusk and Cruelty are def my top 2, the rawness of Principles drops it a notch below those 2

I really love the rawness of Principles. Can't beat the early days of this band. I still love them, but just everything about them was better from like 1993 to about 2002. That was when they were in their prime.

For me Vempire is easily their best. I really only love the first three full songs from this and "cruelty" could have been so much better if the production didn't suck. "Midian" was a step back in the right direction, but everything since then has been bad...

I don't know what it is about the first 5 albums that I just love so much. I just think everything was perfect about them, The atmosphere, the vampyric lyrical themes, Dani's vocals were amazing, just everything. The production didn't bother me at all on Cruelty, but I do see where you're coming from Willie. And I also see why you would think everything since Midian has been bad, but I still love everything since then lol. This was pretty much my first metal band that I really loved and they really helped me get into metal.

Production is a big thing for me. I'm a baby about crappy productions. That's probably why I don't appreciate their debut but like the re-recordings from that album on "Vempire" and "Bitter Suites to Succubi".
My main problem with "Damnation and a Day" is that it was too much of the same thing. It all just kind of blurred together. The second half of "Nymphetamine" was good. "Thornography" was the only album I really don't like by these guys. "Godspeed" shows promise, though.

Godspeed is a great return to form

The raw production is one of the main reasons I love Principles. The cold atmosphere it gives off really makes that album great for me. I completely agree with you about Damnation. Nymphetamine has always been great for me, just not something I'm really ever inspired to listen to a lot. As for Thornography I actually really love it. I don't know what it is about that album that makes me always want to listen to it. Even I'm surprised at how much I love that album. I think after Godspeed they're definitely going in the right direction to get back to their roots. They're going back towards the vampyric/gothic black metal sound they had on their early albums, which is definitely a good thing.
