Listening to this for the first time in a long ass time. I forgot how much I loved this album.

Hawks, I have to take back some of my CoF hate comments from the past. This is very good so far and I find it to be a bit more genuine than their later albums. Any other rec's for these guys?

Dude Wiz I never noticed that comment before, but if you like this then get The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, Vempire, Cruelty and the Beast, and Midian and you'll probably like all of them.

Listening to this now for the first time in a while. Will always be one of the best symphonic/gothic black metal albums ever IMO and definitely the best Cradle album.

Their best album indeed

I also have Vempire as a 5, but it's still not as good as this and The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, Cruelty and the Beast, and Midian aren't too far behind either.

IndomitableSpirit, I think it's pretty awesome how you like all the black metal that nobody has heard of, but also appreciate the more "mainstream" and well known bands lol.

Haha thanks man. I guess i'm just open to whatever, if it sounds good and perks my interest, i'll like it whether its mainstream, underground etc...

Well it's good to know that you're not an elitist asshole like some people on this site. The fact that you like Cradle of Filth and also some black metal bands I've never heard of in my life is pretty awesome lol. But as for the album, I remember the first time I heard this. It was the first COF album I heard before they became "mainstream" and it really shocked me, but in a good way. It's unbelievable how much better Dani's vocals are on the earlier albums.

Seriously. the layering the overall tone/quality of his voice is just so much more raw and enjoyable

I just love his high-pitched vocals. His vocals were among the best in the black metal genre up until after Midian and then he couldn't go as high as he used to be able to and it's just never been the same since. I still really like his vocals, but they're nowhere near as good as they were on the first 5 albums.

I liked his highpitched better too but i was probably more impressed when he would do death grunts and stuff because they were just crazy demonic
|
| |
I read somewhere that he hurt his vocals bad while recording this and that's why he never sang like that again

That suckssss. Also i liked the earlier albums better because of the production. It wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't perfect with imo WAS perfect haha

Well yeah those are awesome too lol.

Well it couldn't have been when he was recording this because his vocals are pretty much exactly the same on Cruelty and the Beast. Midian is when his high-pitched vocals started to suffer and then on Damnation and a Day they weren't even close to how they used to be.

It was atmospheric, and yes, I agree with you
The squeaky clean production of nowadays is what ruined whatever potential GOTDT might have had

Yeah you can't beat the atmosphere on the first 4 albums. Those are all essential symphonic black metal albums if you ask me.
