Hey Alexander ^/all,
Yeah I believe this was my response (below) but you deleted the thread? Luckily I kept it as I was about to post the same on here to explain my reasoning to others in this review:
Yeah, it’s an interesting one. I’ve come away listening to so many albums, typically shorter and felt “oh, that was it?”. Often disappointed and wanting more but not content with what little display there was on offer.
I absolutely advocate cutting out the bullshit on a record but my output is generally so high the frustrating aspect is figuring out what to cut. The record is meant to be a journey as much as it is an assault, but never letting you forget what it’s really about.
People get so wrapped up in their expectation of what an album should be they forget to just fucking listen.
The evolution of a band today feels somewhat immediately required from release to release. You lose the subtlety as a result. I feel there’s an expectation that the artist has to sound drastically different so as to not “repeat” similar tropes on a follow-up. Truth is, I really do not care about that at all.
Chronology involves time as a factor as much as it involves staged output in the form of numerous physical albums. I’m more interested in figuring out what Frontierer will sound like in 15 years as opposed to 5 albums. Because life factors will influence so much of it.
I’d rather Frontierer’s longevity was marked with gradual adaptation and learning from experiences over time than just planning what I’m going to do next to make the follow-up different to the last.
Anyway, the main point is I had so much content and all of it “great” (to me) and too many guitar sounds/a whole different mix to pick that I just had to make 2 albums in parallel. So there’s a lot more on its way already.
Enjoy!!”
Perhaps pretentiousness has been mistaken for giving a detailed response to your kneejerk comment about the record length? Regardless, I was just trying to answer your question. And FYI I’m in the band.

Well this is super creepy and awkward
I wasn't tryin to start any drama or anything but yeah I thought yr comment was suuuuper long-winded and self-congratulatory. I got respect for yr skill and the music and all, but yeah idk it seemed like a very long pat on the back for being a great guitarist

So basically I just told the guy in a long-winded way that we have a 3rd album and justified my point but got panic-deleted and shittalked on another forum. This reviews been a useful insight into a lot of things.
Enjoy guys!!

haha I don't think we're used to artists actually responding to us

It's heavier than the music I frequent these days. But I say a 3.5 is apt. It's too long for its own good, though. My faves are "Unloved & Oxidized" & "Fluorescent Nights". You'll prbly end up wittling it down to an extended play worth of the best tracks & there's nothing wrong with that.
Hope that helps, Chambered.

I'd say there's definitely a lot of songs that have very similar riffs going on but there's at least one thing/moment in each song that makes them special.

Happy to be negged for constructive reasons. Haven't heard many yet, though. C'est la vie.
For the record, Pedram, I don't think I suggested (nor would I suggest) that this record is bogged down by filler. There can be different reasons to want a shorter record. You write, though:
"The evolution of a band today feels somewhat immediately required from release to release. You lose the subtlety as a result. I feel there’s an expectation that the artist has to sound drastically different so as to not “repeat” similar tropes on a follow-up. Truth is, I really do not care about that at all."
That's a fair point, something I might lose sight of from time to time.
At any rate, I don't think my review was overly critical. For those getting that sense, I ask you to keep in mind the many highly positive things I have to say in the review. 3.5/5 literally means great, by Sputnik's criteria...

Your review is completely fair and normal and does not deserve to be negged
