Thats because they took a step away from the mainstream, and IMO, and seemingly almost everybody elses, its much, much better than TOCS. Accept some change man, it's for the better.

Yea.. I've noticed there weren't many repeated choruses on this album (except for A Moment Suspended in Time... which I thought was going to be the single when i first heard the leaked version because of it's cliche'd structure.) I like this different style of not just having the same, played out song structure (verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus x3.) A lot of their songs still contain a lot of catchiness without this method; I think it worked really well :D.

I've been listening to this album for over 2-3 months, and I still can't get enough of it.

Best Album of 2006, IMO.

Yeah, and apparently it's selling well, stuff I've read is varying between 50 to over 100,000 for its first week. I know this isn't what's important, but its awesome to see them achieving this kind of success with such a heavy record. Sure, it's not heavy compared to alot of other music I listen to, but it's pretty darn heavy to be selling that many copies in its first week.

^ i like to know stuff like that. Its interesting to see what albums are selling real well. And this is pretty hard music to be selling like Britney Spears would. haha

Fantastic review!

Totally spot on with all your comments and observations of the band and their albums. It's good to come across someone other than my handful of friends who know the history behind the band.

/two thumbs up

No he isn't, Spencer is the only unoriginal member.

No.
You know nothing.

It is YOU who knows nothing. Dallas being replaced by Spencer was the only change the band in respect to its members went through. This Message Edited On 06.28.06

When the sun sleeps is the best song by Underoath.....almost as good as Atreyu's The Crimson

The best part on the whole album to to me is in "you're ever so inviting" when the music stops and spencer screams "OH GOD" and the music starts again and it goes "everything everything, all around me is crumbling"

Its fucking amazing.

After "They're only chasing safety" this is something I definately did not expect. It's actually quite good, not excellent, but good. So far "Writings on the Walls" is my favorite. Not sure of a rating yet though

I'm sorry but I find all the roaring and screaming very lame and I can't take it seriously.

I wondered what you would think after I read your review of Safety.

I loved this album, but I loved TOCS as well. The very beginning reminded me of Norma Jean at first, for which I was a bit worried. But that was soon put to rest as this CD was awesome.

I have a lot of respect for the band going in the direction they did, however, I find that everytime I listen to one of the songs, every part of the song seems to blend together.

Even though I believe I can listen to any sort of screaming, I find Spencer's screaming very annoying and forced. This album doesn't do it for me because I don't believe the band has a lot of talent over all. The music I typically listen to has better guitars, period. They're guitarists just don't cut it IMHO.

I love UnderOath and most of their music. Some of their songs make me want to stick fork in my eyes and puke, but overall they are a good band. "Moving for the Sake of Motion is def. one of my faves from this album.
