Yeah, this made a great first impression on me - definitely 'higher than a 4' rating potential here

i dunno id say this is particularly boring for leon vynehall standards in a similar way that ruinism was particularly boring for lapalux standards which is why they are such hard 5's its kind of like 2001: space odyssey in that way like its a 5 but it's really boring.

this is my first look into him and I’ll drfinitely walk back through his catalogue.. I don’t connect with much in this genre, but there’s something oddly affecting here for me..

I like him in general to moderate degrees but this one is the first release to push him into any kind of highlightable territory. I think there is a trend going on right now for some high profile electronic artists to be kind of dismantling the boundaries and expectations for what can be a palatable 'mainstream' release. Hence the linear package from front to start, lots more ambiance, atmosphere building, build-up, sparse but face-raping climaxes, more experimental production...

I really like the trend. It makes certain artists stand-out because it virtually forces you to immerse yourself and focus and be patient. For me thats a lot more rewarding and impactful than front-to-back stand-alones that can easily be background music, work music, chill music, whatever.

anyways that's why it doesn't particularly surprise me that this one is "oddly affecting" for you

123. I knew this was gonna be a different beast going by singles, but his magic is still there. He always had that ambient fusion to his chill house and this dove more into ambience and the songwriting and structure improved. it doesn’t bang as hard as Rojus (which is one of my favorite house records) but I feel like he’ll go back to that style soon from whar I gathered.

I'm cool with that. This stands so strong on its own he doesnt really need to fuck with it again, might ruin the magic. Less is more and all that.
