How Hoobastank makes an album:
Remember when we were famous?
Yeah, of course I remember.
Let's do what we did then, but the twist is, we do that now.
You mean keep the sound from 2000s?
Of course! It's considered retro now. Retro is, like, cool bro.
Yeah man, no one would think we're dated.
We'll even do that clean reverberated sound like 3 Doors Down and Shinedown used to do.
Whoa bro, that's a million dollar idea.
Don't forget to use extremely layered vocals and crescendo choruses.
While we're jotting down ideas, why not be really dramatic?
People love drama! You guys are great! Let's hit the studio.

This isn't the Hoobastank I fell in love with on the Daredevil soundtrack
|
| |
I'm sorry, but you knew the film was going downhill when "My Immortal" was used in a funeral scene and followed by "Bring Me to Life" in a training montage. I'm a huge Daredevil fan. I've got a bunch of his comics and have been collecting since I was a child. That movie is a great comedy. Never before have I seen Seether, Evanescence, Hoobastank, Nickelback, and Drowning Pool make a movie *even worse* than it already is.

Their best album was basketball shorts... some seriously sweet jams on there.
Like a ska incubus.
|

It's hard for me to even think about giving this band a chance.

“Get big during a time where music was at its lowest.”
As the Roots Undo came out that year so imma say no to that.
“Let’s do what we did then, but the twist is, we do that now.”
Lmao, that was great.

I'm very much in line with NowhereMatt. Hoobastank is a guilty pleasure band for me, I don't know why. I dig the harmonies, and I picked up the album 'The Reason' for "Same Direction" and "Out of Control," which are both catchy as all hell. I absolutely can't stand their lyric writing, and "The Reason (song) can die in a fire, but the rest of the album's quite decent." [2]
I also enjoyed 'Every Man For Himself' and 'Fight or Flight' (hated 'For(n)ever'). To tell the truth though, I think I'll leave them alone this time. I may get around to this at some point, but I won't go into with any expectations.

I never even thought they were bad until this album though. Their old stuff had some jams, and even their more recent material was okay. This is like lazy pop music though, made even worse by the fact that they so clearly want to be relevant again and just have no clue.

oh god this band is still making music? There's no song I hate more than The Reason and every once in awhile I hear my downstairs neighbors blasting it and singing along because apparently they fucking love it and it makes me want to die every time.
...I did like their first album at the time though. edit: their self titled, never knew about the basketball shorts album until today

Were they ever innovative?

That Tears for Fears cover lol
It actually isn't bad but it is just so random that I can't take it seriously...like if Ariana Grande covered Enter Sandman. Nevermind, that'd be lit.
