Idk the lyrics are pretty bad here and there haha. When they don’t get in the way the music really shines, I’m teetering between 3-3.5 but I’m really really enjoying some of this, I’m gonna keep track of his releases in the future

i mean yea they're not awful but why not demand the best? it's another opportunity for the artist to wow us, that they didn't take
but again, they're not bad

"yeah thats by far the best criticism of this, but it kinda goes without saying considering the genre/audience he's trying to reach (hint: we aren't the audience he's trying to reach)"
Exactly, I'm normally the first to lose my shit over horrible pop lyrics (Taylor Swift's last album was horrific for it), but nothing here is like that; and yet, they touch on all the subjects I loath in pop music. Proof it can be done right.

Pretty good, but yeah I agree the lyrics get old very quickly.

Attention reminds me of Into You by Ariana Grande. Such a great bop though. I feel, just like with Dangerous Woman, the rest of the album can’t live up to that song, but it’s a good pop album nonetheless

I still didn’t like this

I mean you can have a ton of pop songs about love relationships, etc without having each track devolve into jealousy/cheating lol I dig this, but legit it felt like 9 of the tracks we're saying the exact same thing.

A lot of it sounds the same while saying the same thing don’t forget 🧐

Eh I'll disagree with that. A lot of different pop sounds on this record, from some of the trap beats in mainstream music to 80's synth, you got some weeknd esque bangers to smooth soul tracks featuring Boyz II Men and even a cool slow jam with James Taylor. Sure the overall tone of the record may be similar but I think the soundscape is quite diverse on here.

this has a super refreshing set of influences, I don't hear trap on anything, more like house
the lyrics are tacky but lyrics are overrated anyway, go listen to new Arctic Monkeys if you want verbioseness lol

his voice was produced in such a way it just sounded the same all the time to me but ok, this isn't my sort of thing - prob not picking up on the nuance

In other words, it’s bilge.

I agree that the lyrics are pretty mediocre but considering how vapid they were on his last album I’m pretty fine with what I got

yeah, but as people have said, they feel deliberate given the demographic he's aiming at.
All I can say is that this is excellent pop which uses enough modern genre ideas to be relevant, with a shit ton of old-skool influence. And since I'm a big fan of old pop tunes, this slays as a result.

This is way better than his debut, but aside from Attention nothing is really sticking at all.

i'm confused. might check this out, i do enjoy a good pop album. but i'm not a giant fan of his voice so that might diminish my enjoyment of this.
