“Also, just kinda interesting that Rolo Tomassi and now this are my top albums on the year. Where one is sophisticated, polished mathcore the other is a raw, distorted mess of instrumentals that somehow works perfectly. They could both be listed in the same genre but they're both so different”
Took the words right outta my mouf.
This DOES fuck.

THose female screams at the end of Fortune’s daughter are wretched

It's just alright, it has some cool ideas but they're so buried in a cacophonous mess of sound and distortion that it just doesn't work. [2]
This is just too much at once, and I also have experienced a fair bit of albums like this but also I just hate the production... it's soooooo muffled

maybe the cacophonous mess *is* the idea

This thing is something ridiculous. Reminds me of the record Jesus Christ Bobby by the Icelandic band Minus mixed with Animal Collective, MBV and some NIN digital distortion. Pretty wacky but in a good way.

I honestly think that the mix being so deafening is part of why I like this album.
Hell it might be why I love this band.

i’m all for a mess of noise and raw production but most of the time this just sounds muffled. it’s coming out of my headphones as if they were speakers buried under some blankets.
also nearly skipped songs five and six because of that woman’s vocals. her screams are great but otherwise they were entirely grating, and fortunes daughter would have been so better without them

really don't get the hype for this
and i'm usually all over it...but this just blends together into a big mess
some cool parts though

I mean I'm just listening on Spotify with some budget cans. The production is ace imo

I normally enjoy what kurt ballou produces but i’m just not a fan how this sounds. there’s some good ideas on here but it should be better. pretty disappointed but i’m glad so many of you seem to like it so much

Again, I point to those gear gods videos. I think the one that demonstrates the electronic side of this album helps (even if it is a suuuuuuper short sample)

There's a million things going off at once. No one could have mixed this better than Kurt Ballou.

right, and I definitely enjoy a lot of the electronic stuff. my probably isn’t with the mixing per se (not sure if you were talking to someone else). i’m ok with a wall of noise or something that sounds really raw etc. a lot of the stuff on here sounds like the recorded it with blankets over the speaker cabinets

The record is definitely very raw and dirty but I don't feel like it ever sounds like it was recorded with blankets over the cabs. Everything sounds clear to me if I focus.
