Cool of Maynard to let Bono write the lyrics. Judging by this album, there's a 50% chance he'll ruin the next TOOL album that probably won't ever come out anyway.

Cover reminds me of The Anaesthete's artwork, except somehow even worse.

I want to make sure it's on record that there is a turntable on this album, also. Some of the lyrics are worse than late-era Linkin Park. Saccharine, heart-on-my-sleeve, pseudo-political bullshit. Singing about the poor masses when you own a fucking vineyard is cringe inducing.

A gave it a 1.5 for having a few lines that caused some pee to come out of my front elephant trunk in amusement

If your trunk doesn't weep with laughter you've got a soft 1.0 on your hands

It's about what I've come to expect from a Maynard helmed project in the post-Puscifer age - dogshit lyrics, baffling cover art, careless approach to the overall product, etc.

He doesn't care anymore, and the point he wants to make is that he can literally shit in a box and ya'll will still buy it. And that's exactly what's happening. This album reeks of years worth of squabbling over how to compose each track - as evidenced by the interviews with Howerdel for the last 10 years.

There's few bright moments - the opening track and Disillusioned are solid (paradox = the first time I listened to the latter was on my cellphone), but what they did to By and Down is a travesty. The original was the whole reason I was interested in an APC reunion b/c it was such a great cut. This new version sucks.

Also, enough with the defense of "well I wasn't expecting a Mer de Noms Part 2" b/c that's an idiotic way to defend a fairly basic album. This isn't even on par with Emotive.

Well 'Mer du Noms' isn't fit to buff 'AEnima's boots...and then Aenima is only a 4.0 in terms of all the pantheon of great albums out there.

So that's the state of play.

Its funny that MJK has become so comfortable with his image has a successful musician that by now, he'll even appear alone on the cover of his band's first new album in a decade and a half

Are people thinking that’s Maynard on the cover? It doesn’t really look anything like him to me.
