Damn Doof, I agree with most of those, think you’re underrating Journal but the rest are bizarrely accurate give or take the odd .5 & this one (although it is bad)

I actually like this one quite a bit. Broken Algorithms in particular kicks ass

@Darius: It varies from album to album. Here's a rundown:

Generation Terrorists - punk/glam metal

Gold Against the Soul - alternative rock/grunge/glam metal

Holy Bible - alternative rock/post-punk/punk/hard rock

Everything Must Go - alternative rock/Britpop/pop rock/hard rock

This is My Truth - alternative rock/pop rock

Know Your Enemy - alternative rock/hard rock

Lifeblood - synthrock/synthpop/pop rock

Send Away the Tigers - hard rock/glam rock

Journal for Plague Lovers - alternative rock/post-punk

Postcards from a Young Man - alternative rock/power pop

Rewind the Film - folk rock

Futurology - synthrock/hard rock/krautrock

Resistance is Futile - alternative rock/hard rock

So yeah, they're predominantly alternative rock, but they do have post-punk and punk in a few of their records

I’d say Futurology’s more like synthpop/post punk and Send Away the Tigers is more like powerpop but Patterns hit it on the head

It'd be cool if they did an all-out metal album someday. I remember that quote from Richey that the band's follow-up was gonna be like a cross between Primal Scream, Nine Inch Nails, and Pantera. Then again, James also said he probably wouldn't have sent the band in that direction... still, it would have been cool to hear regardless. Plus, the heavier parts of Generation Terrorists (Condemned to Rock and Roll, Another Invented Disease) and Gold Against the Soul (Symphony of Tourette's, Sleepflower) show that they can do hard rock and metal quite well

Not that these guys are any better now, but Alkaline Trio is one signed contract away from being featured on Kidz Bop.

How the hell did this band fall so hard tho? This is probably their worst album, it sounds so tired and especially uninspired after Futurology which is a top 3 album for how inspired, energetic, and creative it is. The only truly great song is probably Sequels of Forgotten Wars. People Give In, Dylan and Caitlyn, and Hold Me Like a Heaven are fucking dreadful

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of these guys anymore, but Futurology was so much more creative than this turgid, uninspired exercise in mind-numbing blandness.
