No, it's like going from Lord of the Rings to Harry Potter.

Nothing is sacred to me ;)
Well, talking about stagnation, that Seventh Wonder song sounds like like half their other stuff, Wiseman or some segment of Great Escape in particular. It's okay but I can't say I like the chorus.

I like it, but I can't say I disagree with that notion
though a lot of people are going to compare Tommy between the two bands even more now. That's going to be a headache.

Yeah, people need to realize that both aim for different things and different styles are needed for those. Kamelot is way more theatrical and what many people see as "Khan imitation" of Tommy is just a sense of drama that Kamelot can't exist without. It's necessary for their sound. Why would it all be about Tommy boasting about, especially when he's got Seventh Wonder for that. He's doing what fits the sound of the band. It's like wanting an actor to play the same role for two different shows.

If Roy was on this and they told him to take the same direction, it'd still be a 3. I love Roy as much as the next person, but his presence alone doesn't guarantee the music will be great; Poetry for the Poisoned is proof of that.
I'm actually getting a bit more of a "Welcome to Mercy Falls" and "Paradise" vibe from that new Seventh Wonder track. I do enjoy it, but it's definitely not adventurous.
Back to the Khan/Tommy discussion. I won't disagree about each band requiring different approaches for their music, but when I listen to this album, the theatrics feel hollow and skin-deep. They're there, but aren't realized in a way that makes the album feel committed, which absolutely extends to the vocal performances. I'd describe Tommy's performance on Silverthorn as "Khan imitation" at worst, but between this and Haven, I'd call it overly restrained. Just because I or someone else wants a performance that properly demonstrates his talent doesn't mean "just mimic your Seventh Wonder style and call it a day."

Poetry for the Poisoned is one of their most underrated albums to me (it's my 5th favourite after the obvious 4).
Anyway, Tommy shouldn't just channel Seventh Wonder in this band indeed, but expand upon his usual approach, which I'd say he does a few times on this album.

That short solo near the end of Amnesiac is tasty

But yeah, this album is pretty bland

I kinda realize that Burns To Embrace could easily be an Epica song

Didn't think that much of this at first, but a few listens in reveals some unique layers, such as a slight electronic influence on some tracks.
Still, I thought this was supposed to be industrial influenced, and I really can't hear that much...
Ravenlight, Amnesiac, Kevlar Skin and, in particular, Vespertine and Proud... are highlights for me. The rest is pretty generic/forgettable (though not bad). That intro and outro feels like complete filler to me, serves pretty much no purpose...

This is definitely a very good album, but their current sound is getting just a bit stale. That and they implemented a child choir on one song. What the fuck.
