Sowing I know this ship has sailed already, but please don't start with this album

The Greatest Generation was one of the most meaningful albums to me I can think of in a long time. That part in Teenage Parents where he says "my mother wore a sundress on the day that she got married" (and a billion more other lines" wrecks me every time.
So stoked to listen to this.

Idk.. I think it’s their best and most mature

Rowan I love u but I'm literally stunned that a)you think this is more of the same and b) NCTH is better?? Sad to see, hope it grows on ya

As someone who stans NCTH, this is way better.

I think NCTH is their weakest effort since The Upsides, still great tho

can’t tell is suburbia or NCTH is better cos cigarettes and saints is like the best fucking song ever but NCTH is inconsistent for them

apart from the last song (which is great) where's the cosmic leap forward these guys apparently took on this album? I don't hear it at all, and I wish I did. the whole middle run (2-8 or so) on here is just variations on the same theme, and not in a cool narrative-building way like Suburbia was
I just miss when this band was catchy idk, I don't think that should be such a strange stance to take

I think the instrumentation is way more fleshed out on this album and there's just so much more space and nuance, IDK it sounds totally different to me. I'm mainly just sad to see you think NCTH is better, I just think that's an extremely inconstant and kinda bland album coming from them

idk i don’t think its like a giant leap for them at all I just happen to enjoy all the songs on it and find it one of their more consistent efforts, as well I don’t really care that they’re no longer a better new found glory who wrote about being homeless like they were on the upsides

Cant wait to jam this

NCTH was great though. really tense and clustered in on itself in a powerful way. plus the highlights are essentially the greatest songs they ever wrote
|

NCTH is their best album but I hope this tops it

This is the only Wonder Years album I've really enjoyed. Excellent review

still not really sure where I stand on NCTH because it's got probably the most songs out of any wonder years that just do nothing for me but also thrown in there are easily some of the best songs they've ever written with cigarettes and saints being probably my top song of theirs
stained glass ceilings gets points too for being the last good song with Jason butler on it

greatest generation is infinitely better than NCTH

Maybe I need to revisit NCTH because I just didn't think it was anything special like this or their previous stuff, but yeah Cigarettes and Saints is still their best song

NCTH was great all the way through and had KILLER standout tracks

No Closer to Heaven just felt like A Lesson in Romantics 2.0. It was good but wasn’t anything spectacular. I prefer ALIR just because of nostalgia and just from developing a connection with it over the years. And I feel The Greatest Generation was just rather by-the-numbers pop punk. I’m not saying this is groundbreaking by any means but this is easily the best they’ve ever sounded. Dan’s voice just sounds fitting in this setting.

I feel about NCTH the way Chan felt about TGG at the start of this review
This is really good on first impression and it's probably gonna grow
