Yeah there’s been an insane amount of good music lately...haven’t even had the chance to fully digest that new Panopticon yet

Soon after the new Ulvesang album disappointment me this comes out of nowhere and is incredible. Amazingly beautiful.

I gave these guys a quick listen awhile ago and wasn't into it, but that was also when I wasn't into black metal as much, but now that this is so amazing maybe I will have to hear their other stuff again.

This is nice

Edit: hmmm, kinda feel underwhelmed. It's pretty and relaxing but a bit samey.

album is great. Not exactly my next musk ox/vali fix, but hey I'll take it after all these years of waiting.

Eh, enjoyable - but I'd rather just spin some Ulver or Váli instead

This record is much more interesting than I thought it would be. I do enjoy the more "dark folk" type songs on here, and there are a couple songs like The Shepherd and the majority of Elder Mother that have a very traditional folk sound to them which I didn't really enjoy that much on my initial listen. The production on this album is fantastic. Every instrument sounds so natural and audible, they really did a great job with this one. Definitely requires a few listens to let it all sink in.

Yeah, there’s so much emotion poured into the violin and cello parts it’s almost ridiculous

@Evreaia, hopefully u at least enjoyed as much as the new Ulvesang. Felt that album was missing something and this more than filled that hole for me

@Scuro, I can see where you’re coming from but I personally thought there was enough variation to keep things interesting throughout. They’ve created such a strong atmosphere with little more than an acoustic guitar, violins and, of course, that godly cello :] glad u thought it was pretty but hope it grows on ya more

Fortuitously, I think I listened to this in the right place at the right time. This is the first album I have heard from this band and all I can say is this album is effortlessly stunning.

@Atari Ulvesang grew off me really damn quick. Liking this more on a first listen, hoping this has a bit more staying power.

The new Ulvesang was a bit of a letdown for me as well, but I keep trying to give it the benefit of the doubt and relisten to it hoping one day it might click.

This album is pretty good, but not as enjoyable for me as their side project Wolcensmen which is pretty much the same style they did on here but is much more moving and interesting.

this is seriously stunning, blows away the rest of their discog. Very refreshing change too, the rest of their discog is fairly homogeneous, really good choice to make a change like this.

yeah i was listening to it last night and something about the cadence and lyrics sounded off to me, and i got wondering if they had taken the lyrics from somewhere

turns out they had (though they changed the wording and tense in a lot of stanzas to maintain originality)

it's so wild to me that after being pretty bored with new music all year so far I just come back in and get blown away by this and the new Panopticon. Maybe throw the new Rolo Tomassi in there too, I'm still figuring that one out a bit though. I was worried that I was getting prematurely old or something lol but this stuff is reeling me right back in.

Time for another neofolk binge, here's hoping I can add a new Vali or Tenhi record in the foreseeable future.
