I just don't get why Drake gets so much shit for doing similar things and this guy is regarded as some deep dude. I mean, are his lyrics really deep? Not that I can tell. And I don't even like Drake's music.

Eons, I think it's cause in the rap game you're expected to be "tougher," while in R&B being more sensitive is expected.

always considered drake more of an r&b artist i guess . I really want to call this guy The Cock End for some reason.

I mean there's obviously a lot of overlap between those fanbases... And Drake is more well known so it makes sense he is subjected to heavier scrutiny. With this guy it's more about the atmosphere, the beats, his voice than the lyrics.
Also Take Care's best tracks were sniped from House of Balloons and the latter still ended up being a far superior album

Eh it's alright as far as atmosphere goes but he never really explores anything interesting. There are many MANY producers these days that make these supposedly ''chilly dark'' beats. I mean something dark, for me, is like the album 'Excavation' by The Haxan Cloak. If he had that guy produce, perhaps he'd have some more interesting stuff.

The guy just strikes me as one of those guys that tries to be edgy and mysterious but really is as deep as a puddle. Maybe I'm coming across like I have some vendetta against him. I don't really, but I just find him overrated I guess. There's plenty of better 'dark moody' r&b out there.

man I really want to love The Weeknd but he makes it hard when even on his new EPs, his releases are a solid six songs too long
