Okay it got a bit lamer toward the end. Spoken word piece was hella preachy, and White’s agitated yelp is so overdone. On any rockier song it seems he’ll bust out a “someone who actively DESPISES you” at any second. Still, I admire how weird and experimental some of this is, even if the execution is scattershot

I've heard half of this and liked it. What's up with that album cover though?

i dig the album cover, it's like polished vaporwave aesthetic

biggest thing i like about this album is overall how unconventional the vocals are - how they're placed in songs, range from singing to shouting to rapping (in a bit of an awk manner, but whatever). jack really seems like he let the songs breathe and only put in vocals where they were needed instead of having the tracks revolve around them

I feel some midnight vultures mojo on this thing. Kinda like it.

Agree Toad, seems like the vocals were the last component to be added in many of these songs.

Maybe he should have dropped the vox altogether, fleshed out the compositions a little, and made a Life in the Bush of Ghosts-style instrumental rock album. Could have been great

I'm glad he went in this direction. Hopefully he continues to go down this road on future releases. He's finally being more challenging again.

It’s challenging in the sense it’s a challenge to listen to.

Yep, this rating proves that this site is a joke.

Man, even Anthony Fantano looked into this album more than Sputnik did. Holy Hell.

There’s just nothing gripping about this album. It’s like Jack White’s Kid A without actually having anything that wants to clamp on you and say “yeah, do you get it now?”

I appreciate the mastery and the originality, but it feels like a chore to listen to without any reward for going through it.

thanks Dr. Gonzo.

I've never listened to his solo stuff outside of the singles, so I think I'm just a sucker for his stuff, because I'm enjoying all three albums a lot. but i do think this one is the best of the bunch
