This album is far from a classic by any means, but I feel like a 0.5 is childishly harsh. Like would you really consider this musical content to be the lowest of the low excuse for music? bc I feel like thats bit of a stretch. BTW Im not a huge fan of X and Im not mad that you dont like him or his music, Im just saying bro.

The only critique I would have of the review is that you don't have to always try so hard to show off with your idiolect. It does sometimes feel like your trying too hard to impress with it, and points that would have otherwise been hard hitting are just distracting because you've worked out how to use the 'synonyms' function on Word. Just some constructive criticism.

Tbh this review is actually pretty good about that compared to many, many others on this site. I agree with the sentiment in a general sense though, Sputnik as a whole seems to have a tendency to value verbosity over well-constructed, hard-hitting points more often than not

The sad thing is, the guy can actually rap. But aside from a few VERY fleeting moments peppered throughout his work, there's literally nothing to recommend him.

I thought the rev was pretty average tbh, had some cool moments but overall it was drab, at least for me
As for XXX, I heard 17 and didn’t enjoy it, dunno if I should give this a try

I can't help but feel like the reviewer is putting way higher expectations on X than he would another artist. Spanish, Sad and 888 are, if nothing else, very catchy stick-in-your head tracks that get by on this merit alone.

It's not dark side of the moon, but as a hip-hop/pop album, it ain't bad.

Review was great, without question. People freak out too much sometimes when you start focusing your writing about the artist that literally made the music or the audience that literally heard the music. Like how is that not absolutely relevant?!

How do people take this guy so seriously when he doesn't even take his own music seriously?

JustJoe, bringing the artist into play does make sense. I agree with you on that. What I don't agree with is the audience. In no case should an artist's fanbase change your opinion on the artist themselves or their output, no matter how despicable the fanbase gets.

" I had to ask myself when reviewing "; [/i]Why[/i]" I still don’t think I can answer that question. The ‘Why"’ that surrounds XXXTentacion’s existence and continuing commercial and critical existence confounds me..."

I think I may be getting old, but I think the root of this lies in youth in some way. For some reason; 1) "all" of these artists seem to be frequent users of services like SoundCloud in the beginnings of their career. 2) They are in between the ages of 17-18. 3) They have face tattoos (which to an old timer like myself, is def a new 'trend' if you will - NOBODY had scribbled words on their temples / foreheads, the furthest you went were neck tattoos). And 4) quite a few of them have their origins in Florida (?)

If you're looking for an anthropological study of them and their cronies/fans, you should check out podcasts like 'No Jumper'. Case in point: https://youtu.be/m2rDeUUlB8E (how edgy do you have to be to roll a joint in front of a bunch of 12 year old's at a signing!?)

Fuck, I'm old.
