not surprised a fan of julien baker’s snivelling, mawkish art can’t handle the sophistication here

Uf ok, after a full spin I am not too sure how I feel about this. I get the argument of both sides, No Face, The Bug Collector and maybe Worth It are definitely good but the rest is an exact copy of someone I heard before and I just can't remember who it is (not Angel Olsen).

Huh. Unsure how a Julien Baker comparison would even come about. You'd be hard-pressed arguing the two belong in the same scene, let alone share influences or a common sound. In fact, I don't hear any of these comparisons outside of perhaps Angel Olsen. Bedouine is the closest contemporary example I can think of, maybe Julie Byrne, but even then the influences are so vastly different.

Thank you, beautiful Ben. :3

Julie Byrne and Angel Olsen are easily closer to this than Julien Baker or Phoebe Bridgers and the likes. Also reminds me a bit to Alela Diane in some parts.

I don't think this has anything to do with baker either I just wanted to counter-snark trebor

Oh, of course, this is a pro-snark zone. c:

Yes! Cusp isn't a bad comparison. I think part of what sets this album apart is its level of detail; it's been interesting watching the songs develop over time -- Drinking Song opened her first EP, I find it impressive that she's managed to reappropriate it so well.

Yeah I only brought up Julien Baker to trigger treb.

I do, however, hear a lot of Angel Olsen in this, though a lot of that is just her voice.

I love and hate the fact that Julien Baker has to be mentioned in any post-2016 folk thread at some point
