genuinely what
oom sha la la is home to the cutest mid-song tantrum probably ever recorded and, as such, is song of the year. that is, if the bug collector and show you a body didn't exist

I think it's the melody that's a bit too obvious / cheesy for my tastes but I see the appeal

Verdant the tantrum you mention feels really forced to me. It’s a problem more of performance than of songwriting. I get that it’s supposed to be a manic scourging of one’s mind. I do really like how the lyrics use the rotting of food and the metaphor of a garden to represent that scourging. FWIW I hated the song on first listen but now it has grown on me so hopefully it will more.

As much as I adore Oom Sha La La, it's messy as heck, but intentionally so, and that's its charm (for me, at least). Like, she's throwing a tantrum about the contents of her fridge expiring -- it's supposed to be a releasing of tension, and a humorous one at that. She puts on a deliberate affectation, because as meaningful as the mantra is, it's also kinda ridiculous. I think it pokes fun at the seriousness of the first half of the album. "What has all this emotional anguish taught me? That I need to start a garden!" (A reference to the garden line in Jo too obviously.)
But yeah, doesn't excuse what you might consider a weak performance, that's just my justification for it. (:

It reminds me of "Kiss the Girl" from The Little Mermaid, but twisted into a bizarre folk song haha

Jesus christ blush, this is beautiful. Your mastery of complex sentence structures is both inspiring and intimidating. I'm never gonna run out of good folk recs while you're around (;
One minor thought, in "that plague her lover’s, and by extension her day", I feel like either that apostrophe is misplaced or that there should be a comma before day but that might be wrong and cluttered so idk!

Y'all check Dogwood Tales - Too Hard to Tell if you need a fix on more class folk stuff
