Tim's voice is definitely an acquired taste - once acquired, I'd have it no other way

Every song on this album seems to lose power before the end of its runtime, still feeling the 3 on second run through.
Album sort of switches between Interpol, The Strokes, Joy Division, Deerhunter and The Cure - but lacks an identity of its own, other than the 'look at me' vocals. It's alright.

So this is the power of post-punk revival...whoa.....

I think they were aiming that every song trails off, disintegrating in an artful manner...instead it feels like these songs take it in turns to slowly trundle off to the elephant's graveyard, release their guts, then curl up and die. SAD!

'These 3 Things' is the closest to a consistent song throughout - but its the biggest case of Robert Smith rape since that first Black Kids album. Has the exact same keyboard line as 'Lovesong' and you could almost sing one set of lyrics over the other.
'Desire' starts like it'll work out the show stopper but it goes exactly where no one wanted it to go second half.
Also The Strokes style verses that pop up throughout are uncanny and throw me off.
Not sure about this album at all.

Doof is right, the songwriting is messy and floundering here

You best starting worrying about New Material, Pops. An iron fist awaits it.
|

Can I dib it? Cause I feel like there goes my inevitable 2.0 massacre.
