Will I like this if I don't like their debut?

Also, how is Alex's drumming in here?

its pretty similar to the debut in many ways so its unlikely.
alex's drumming is pretty electric here though, imo. second last track is just him fucking around on the kit for a minute and a half.

Might give that track a listen just for that then. Don't know why I just can't get into their debut even though I enjoy dgd and hail the sun.

"Such A Kind Stranger" fucking bangs. The riffage and drums on this album is absolutely superb, definitely reminds me a lot of early The Fall of Troy. I'm stoked on it.

It's just Okay Tiger. The problem with this album, as I see it, is that it's about as middle of the road as can be. It's completely inoffensive and I daresay the first half of the album is quite pleasant, but pleasant and inoffensive are hardly adjectives you want to use for [what used to be] a prog metal band.

Vocalist reminds me a lot of Anberlin for some reason

This is definitely a more streamlined sound for them. With the strength of these choruses, they prove to me they can pull it off. I think people are definitely missing the flourishes they had on the debut though.

This reminds me of what Circa Survive are doing right now.

i think this record is pretty damn good. i may lower to a 3.5 but so far i enjoy the light airy feel they have gone for.

the band themselves has stated they want their instrumentals to back up elliot and not overpower him ever. which TBH is sad, i think if they all showcase their stuff (or have moments where they can shine prominently), then the band as a whole would be elevated.

but there's totally nothing wrong with wanting to be a vocal-centric band. elliot certainly pulls it off. his melodies and harmonies are very unique and distinct from a lot of other vocalists.

i am often reminded of the mars volta while listening to him

Elliot has the voice of an angel, however, I agree with the fact that a lot of the hooks sound very similar. Not a unique album but not a bad one by any means

With all the talented individuals in this band it's a shame this album is piss poor, still fun though
