7 tracks through and i'm fairly impressed. this album didn't have a chance though critically following 20/20.

Ok so I guess the lyrics aren't the best, but I don't get the attack that it's not very deep?
It's Justin Timberlake, when the fuck was he ever deep? 20/20 experience was amazing and it didn't exactly say anything profound.

Thoroughly lambasted Rowan. The reviews for this should offer me some enjoyment for an album I will never listen to.

it seems to be mildly panned across the board, which is surprising

I feel like the album caters to those redneck folks that pride themselves for wearing camo, smoking Marlboro's and shooting things while getting drunk and getting their cousin pregnant. You know the type, those that love modern country and the "small town life." Basically Timberlake wants to appeal to the Kid Rock fans. John Mayer did country music and it didn't work. I'm not sure why Justin went down this (likely dirt) road.

I actually don't hate Flannel as much as I hate other songs here like Sauce and Wave. but this is a huge letdown after 20/20
"It's Justin Timberlake, when the fuck was he ever deep? 20/20 experience was amazing"
It covered the lyrical shallowness with gorgeous production, a great vocal performance and grooves for days. Every song on part 1 (and most of part 2) is manically catchy and didn't feel painfully generic like this one.

Oh yeah dude, I fucking adore 20/20 and don't exactly love this so I'm with you on the songs. But I've just seen in a few reviews the same complaint of "the lyrics are shallow!"...well, yeah it's fucking pop music lol

My problem with the lyrics here isn't that they're shallow, it's that the metaphors are cringey. Shallow and pedestrian is one thing, the "purple and pink" in Sauce is just a disaster.
this is probably a 2.5-3 musically but the lyrics make it a 2

Higher Higher is such a fucking jam.....
The rest is yikes. Bummer, I genuinely dig his music most of the time but he blew it

That's fair, I guess I only listened to it once in the background while working - I'll give it a second listen and pay attention more.

I owe this another listen but I'm not looking forward to it
Midnight Summer Jam is surprisingly great, but I didn't enjoy much else

20/20 had him talking about taking trips in "space lover cocoons" and saying gems like "If you'll be my strawberry bubblegum, I'll be your blueberry lollipop". He's always written mostly garbage lyrics but the songs were so good that it was negligible. The lyrics almost demand to be listened to on this record due to how little is actually happening.

I give it a 3 cause 2/3 of it was like decent or okay. the other 1/3 I can just completely do without. 11 13 14 15 I can skip completely
