Savage final sentence. I love it. The album I definitely don't love though.

@Jac fair calls. my thinking was that the preamble would be justified (get it) by giving context to the big paragraph. like a theoretical different album that could have been made to contextualise the one we got. but your points are valid all the same, idk this wasn't my most rigorously edited review because the stream of consciousness seemed to fit the terrible album

I disagree w/Jac, I love those first two paragraphs. They're fun, they're insightful, and they have personality. I feel like it perfectly flows into the actual analysis, and I like the fact they they're connected to the sound of this album yet (possibly) more successful alternatives to what he released here.

I honestly never had any intention of listening to this, but now I definitely won't.

Great work.

Man what a clusterfuck this turned out to be. I feel like he just called it man of the woods because he had a couple songs here where he did some faux-folksy bullshit. Like the intro to Livin Off the Land is really cool and sets you up for this crackling fire, night in the woods - then this fuckin R&B club beat drops and you're like "oh yeah, that's right -- JT is a one trick pony" and then it kinda makes you disappointed for thinking this was going to be a statement record for him as an experimental artist. What kind of foolish trusting was that.

maybe not a one-trick pony but definitely a one-genre...something....I can't say pony because by the sounds of this album I doubt he's ever actually been somewhere rural in his life. he's probably only ever heard of ponies.

Fuck

I don't want this to be bad. His last album was one of my all time favorite pop records.

His only decent stuff is most of the album Justified and a few songs from Future sex/love sounds

Dude all of 20/20 Experience is fucking tremendous. I listen to that vinyl before like every wedding or whenever I have to suit up/use my art of shaving stuff.

Yeah, the whole theme of this is a little cringy, but it's been enjoyable for me so far. Agreed, Flannel is too much lol. I like the sound of it, but the lyrics kinda kill it.

I haven't been listening to the lyrics yet, and maybe I'm just happy it's not new Eminem of new Machinehead, but this isn't as terrible as I thought it would be after reading some of these reviews. Gonna have to listen to it again, though.
