Holy hell the band have really stepped it up with this release. The musicianship simply flows here really well, and I admire how the band have interpreted a more retro vibe into their usual blend of gothic rock and extreme metal. Sure, this marks a gentler, more accessible flavour but it's all the more immersive for that reason. Goes without saying I think they'll be my band of the night when I see them alongside Jinjer, Wintersun and Arch Enemy.

The music here is very engaging, but unfortunately the grating one-dimensional vocals take away from what could be a pretty worthy album. The only song I find to be a completely solid piece of work is "Subterranea". The vocals actually fit the tension there. Elsewhere this album needs a more dynamic voice to carry it.
