Dude....there's no way Drop It Like It's Hot is his best song. I hope you're trolling with that statement.

I don't particularly like the hook but have you even listened to that song? One of the best rap songs
of the 00's probably. The whole thing screams just cool niggatude. And that Neptunes beat is just
sublime.

it's like a perfect post-G funk West Coast song, it has that "feel-good smoking weed in the Summertime" feel.

I am really curious as to how Drop It Like It's Hot is anything but one of the best Top 40 rap songs of the 2000s, though. I mean I used to really get annoyed with it just because hearing, "Drop it like it's hoOOOT, drop it like it's hoOOOOT" can get annoying after hearing that one part of the hook being overplayed for years and years, but that's not really the song's fault.

When you actually hear it, it's just so feel-good. I mean the beat is based off of sampling spray paint cans for god's sakes. It's so gooood. Pharrell's verse just adds a ton of coolness to the track and Snoop just does his classic thing.

I think people just associate the song with being bad because the hook was so overplayed for years and years tbh.

well why isn't any song in the "top 40 rap songs of the 2000s"? if you're making a list of most notable hits then yeah sure but quality-wise it's nothing special

the rapping sucks, so then we look to the beat to salvage it. here it's totally preference, but neptunes beats have always been more inventive/interesting than enjoyable in my eyes. that one is no exception, and i have no clue how you could call it a "feel-good smoking weed in the Summertime" kind of song. it's emptiness and cold atmosphere is what makes it so boring to me. it's not cold in a hard-hitting, satisfying way, it's cold in that it makes me feel nothing at all. okay, it samples spray cans. mr. bungle dabbles in many styles in the same song. they're both gimmicks that can't hide the fact that they just aren't very good.

Well there you go. I'm satisfied.

I don't really see how the rapping sucks. I mean yeah it's ridiculously simple but I've never once gone into a Snoop Dogg song expecting anything less than basic gangsta and weed rapping. And Pharrell can spit well but I like the chill atmosphere he gives and Snoop's just spitting his great flow. And I mean I think the little synth chords in the beginning give that more "sunny" feel and the creative beat is really chill, but I can understand how you would dislike it. But I guess that's more along the fact that we stand on different sides of Neptunes production since I adore it.

I can see the appeal, but something about the sounds in that beat really rub me the wrong way. I'm not sure what it's actually called, but there are similar sounds on Stankonia, especially on songs like Snappin' & Trappin'. The difference is that Killer Mike is the shit and Outkast is the best rap duo ever so it doesn't bother me as much.

See when I think about feel-good, summery Snoop, I'm thinking of shit like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbI2TS0fW4Q
That song reminds me of riding in my brothers car, windows down, bass rumbling, blasting gangsta rap in the warm weather.

Of course Snoop Dogg isn't a paragon of technical rapping but even in this context it comes across as lazy. I suppose it's because the focus is on the hook and I didn't like it even before I heard it a million times. There's a difference between stoned charisma and laziness, and on Doggystyle I don't think he was even near walking the line. Later in his career though, he sprinted over it. I mean shit, I think Robbers by Koopsta Knicca is one of the best rap songs ever (dat fuckin beat omg) but this song seems dull and repetitive. The difference is that one song has the perfect beat for its task and appropriately chilled out flow (KK sounds like a damn ghost), and the other is just unpleasant to me because of it's sounds and monotonicity.

bam who said nobody talked about music on sputnik

Malleus, I kind of want to ask you not to try to be funny anymore just because it breaks my heart so much to see you try so hard. /:

@Idnuf: Yeah I see that. Honestly I think the beat stays interesting enough to lose the "repetitive" tag and I think Snoop's rapping is okay on the song for the most part but I cringe every time I hear the "I cut so much you thought I was a DJ!" line. And yessssssssssssssssssss Robbers is my favorite song on the entire album and Da Devil's Playground is one of my top albums ever.
