still one of their best tunes. I jam it every New Year's Eve around midnight and it always gets the emotions

that awful Jack/Zach rhyme in the Blackout makes me want to a) vomit and b) immediately jam Wire from Unforgettable

Those awful, totally unnecessary name rhymes are the only thing keeping me from saying The Blackout is a good song.

this is embarrassing. Even their last piece of shit album had a couple songs that were decent. this is just awful man. I'm embarrassed for them. There's no passion here whatsoever.

it's just too much to ask for Songs of Ascent and then a breakup isn't it

I think they got too rich and too comfortable. They used to be a really powerful band in the 1980's. Listen to ''Sunday Bloody Sunday'' and then anything on here.

U2 have evolved in multiple ways since the 80s, as nearly all bands who continue for multiple decades do, but yea their best albums were during that decade.

Tax avoidance, though it wouldn't be too surprising if he did that as well.
He's such a massive fucking hypocrite.

80s>90s>00s>10s for sure with this band, tho the margin between 80s and 90s is pretty slim

yeah, I'd still hand it to the 80s for War and Joshua Tree alone, though my fave by them is a 2000s record (ATYCLB) and their 90s output might be their most consistent imo

so basically just fuck this decade

They released the most content in the 80s too, including all kinds of excellent b-sides, so that's clearly the best decade. I think 90s and 00s are pretty much tied for me.

Bono has never been anything close to resembling a leftist by any means, but for him to invest so much of his celebrity on issues like poverty and hunger in Africa, and to have such massive sums of money stashed in places like the Cayman Islands that will likely forever go untaxed, is slimy. That being said, that's the system that we have unfortunately, he is doing what most people with that degree of money and status would do, there are certainly degrees of sliminess, and Bono is certainly nowhere near as bad as oligarchs that do no sort of advocacy, make their riches by screwing over the working class, and stash most of that money in off-shore tax havens. It's just his self-righteous, pompous attitude that makes me not want to excuse him as only being a rational actor, and the same is true for most rich liberals that spend so much energy bashing conservatives for not caring about the poor and working class when they do the exact same.

Making fun of Bono and trashing him is pretty overdone by now. At least he does a lot to make a positive impact with his fame and wealth, even if there's some obnoxiousness there at times.

I completely agree, but as long as it is a substantive criticism that is more than just pointless moaning, I think that it is fair game and well deserved.

Sure, I wasn't saying you were doing that. His attitude can be self-righteous. I get the sense that the rest of the band are more into just being a band and don't have as much of the messiah complex thing going.

I may be in the minority here but, to me, one of their last hit songs that had any passion was ''Beautiful Day'' and that was like 16 years ago. Also the rest of that album sucked except for maybe two other songs that I can't even remember. So changing and evolving are one thing but losing passion is something else. I think there was this sense of urgency that Bono had before that isn't there now. Also the drumming sucks now.
