I mean I can get everything I need to get out of this album by listening to the gate, body memory, and saint, but there's no denying it's a very pleasant listening experience

"This album is all about the journey, not the destination. It has that cold, sensual feel of Vespertine mixed with the grandiosity and moving strings of Vulnicura, without ever seeming as insufferably cheesy. Deft use of negative space too, like Biophilia. My only gripes are it seems a little too uniform at times and is way too long. That same uniformity is kind of what makes it sound so good tho. Contradictions, man"
this, p. much

The uniformity is what made it hard to get through. Utopia to Saint was a chore. It did often blend in. Too much flute and recorder and animal sounds. And then you got tracks like Features Creatures and The Gate which are devoid of anything at all. I don’t mind 72 minutes of Bjork. Actually sounds nice. But it’s 10 minutes of Bjork and 62 of her singing and not sure what the hells going on. Sue Me is an extreme case in point. Could’ve worked on an Arca album but for Bjork it just seems messy and unclear of direction. She’s even off beat the whole song. The only thing here remotely Bjork are the first two songs.

thought the first two were among the weakest tbh

"You can add Bjork to Arca, but don’t add Arca to Bjork. " On point.

taking the time to really read through some of the lyrical content on this album is pretty outrageous. it's pretty easy to not hear it but like then you're missing gems like these:
"Oral, anal entrances
Enjoy the satisfaction
If the other is growing"
LOL

can someone explain to me why bjork appeals to gay men so much. like i think it's just the fact she's a fucking drama queen but

Bjork's like Kate Bush in that their music is very effeminate, I guess?
|

"Robbing him of his youth"
Oh oh... Here we go.

Most of us can agree (I think) about the uniformity & about how this isn't song focused but instead one all-encompassing piece of music, something that feels as though it's a dream like journey. Maybe getting 'lost' is part of the charm here? I don't know.
For me it doesn't do all that much, I don't find it annoying, in fact it's downright pleasant, maybe too pleasant. I'd prefer more focused song-writing & although I can get lost in this, that's not really a positive aspect of the album.
Different strokes.

Not having any good songs, good melodies or good singing is a slight weakness here agreed agreed
