They only made 2 metal albums, even though Marriage had a little metal, and they were amazing but were released 20 years ago. They've made more than enough albums of many genres and styles since then to be thought of as way more than just a metal band. They're overall more similar to Radiohead or The Gathering than Norweigan bm bands.

I don't think anyone still thinks of them as a metal band. At least I hope not, that would be like people still thinking of Pantera as a glam/hair metal band or something.

Metal Ulver is best Ulver, but yeah all of their stuff slays for the most part.

Yeah same. These songs aren't bad but I'd rather just listen to the ones that actually made the album considering they're all better.

Despite the short length, it’s one of the strongest releases of the year.

I disagree with this statement (and I know it's YOUR opinion). It's like a taste sample but my question I would ask the band is, "Can you do this type of consistency over an entire L.P.?". It's easier to do a great job on a small project but much more difficult to put out something stellar in long form.

Good question! I'm always a fan of a strong EP from start to finish. EPs don't lose points in my book for being shorter regardless of the reason behind the length. Perhaps they can't make a full length this good, but I commend them for not adding filler if this was the case.

Assassination is the entire LP, these are just bonus tracks from that album. And this isn't one of the best albums of 2017 or anything but probably the best EP.
