"Do you not find it a bit hamfisted and on the nose?"
maybe a little bit with ANOHNI, but not to the ridiculous degree that everyone on this site seems to hate her. and even so, that would be an issue with her lyricism, not her politics

"Can’t see me enjoying this all that much, looks like it’s going for excessive-eccentric much like St Vincent"
I like how you negatively analogize the most exceptional pop album of the year.

‘Most exceptional pop album’
Prefer the Kitty album to both

In the interest of complete transparency I haven't heard Kitty yet. I'll correct it this weekend.

Re: ANOHNI: Her lyricism is political, why are you separating the two? And it's definitely very hamfisted. Fever Ray a little as well, but she has far more to say in a much less contrived way

yes, her lyricism is political, but there's a difference between the politics she expresses and the poetry she uses to express them. i can read a political poem, agree with the point it's making, and still think it's not very poetic. but i wouldn't say that poem has "bad politics." so when i see people saying that ANOHNI has "embarrassing politics," it's easy to interpret that comment as, "it's embarrassing that she identifies as a woman or cares about the environment." especially in a world where there's an entire genre of Youtube videos "cringing" at the mere fact that trans people exist.

I'm that way unless the lyrics are terribad. Which ANOHNI's are.

"so when i see people saying that ANOHNI has "embarrassing politics," it's easy to interpret that comment as, "it's embarrassing that she identifies as a woman or cares about the environment.""
oh give me a break. where is the former implied? her environmental droning is definitely exaggerated as hell though and reeks of self-righteousness imo

here's the most bumped soundoff for Paradise: '"my mother's gentle touch, my father's hand on my throat" lol we get it, you really hate men and are trying desperately to be a beautiful woman. The music still sucks though.'
so, yeah, that's where my suspicions about the subtext of "embarrassing politics" are coming from

"‘How can something be too Bjork-y’
It’s easy if you don’t enjoy Bjork that much"
well first off, if you are familiar with experimental pop karin and bjork sound nothing alike. secondly bjork is way worse than karin in every way.
|
| |
because some 15 year old on sputnik wrote a soundoff that could be construed as transphobic? and even then, it's a stretch. people are wont to vilify others - look at the recent pewdiepie controversy when he blurted out the 'n' word in frustration (not that i think that's okay to do, but i'm also not one of the thousands of idiots who believes this automatically makes him a closeted racist). generalizations are dangerous and alienating, and typically used by those trying to satisfy an agenda or justify their hatred of someone/something

agreed hard. i mean, i get the comparison, but they're worlds apart
