I don't really have a problem with the production, surely the guitars could be a little bit more upfront in some parts but it's okay

Yeah I don't get the hate for the production tbh.

i honestly don't get the gripes with the production. it's black metal, it isn't supposed to be good.

it doesn't fit in places and it varies per section. Like sometimes the rhythm guitar is there, sometimes it just blurs away in the background somewhere, and sometimes the two guitars harmonize on a higher tremolo thingy, but with no atmosphere--unlike on CL where they could do that and have synths and bass or w/e filling in the driving feel of the rhythm section.

I disagree that the Von Till contribution feels forced, I think it sets the tone quite well. As for the production, I definitely don't feel like it was a deal breaker as some seem to, I think the songs and the ideas they bring forth to the table are excellent, I did give the album a four. I just feel like certain moments, the climax of Old Ones for instance, kind of lose some punch from certain elements of the music being hard to discern, and not in a way that benefits the atmosphere in my opinion, while Serpent's Eye and Palace of the Moon don't have this issue even while utilizing all the same elements. All the same, I've listened probably over ten times now and this still kicks ass haha. Favorite tracks everyone? I think Fires Roar in the Palace of the Moon closes this out perfectly and is definitely my favorite.

I'm happy to see him finally added to the band as a permanent member, he's been playing with them a long time. He performed with them the first time I saw them in 2014 and I think he vibes great. Ardour Loom added to the ever expanding backlog of bands and albums.

Gonna say you need to brush up on Neurosis and his solo stuff. It's by the numbers and worth a paycheque to him. Heard too many whispered moments in the mountains where the fire crackles and the cold autumn breeze settles in....blah blah blah.
