I'm try and jam their discography soon then along with The National and Manchester Orchestra two bands I regret never listening to till now. Been kind of on an indie kick a little bit lately with some other shit sprinkled in

The National is fucking amazing, but I've never been a huge Manchester Orchestra fan tbh. Been a long time since I've jammed them though.

Everything I'm hearing from The National is seriously blowing me away which is making me really regret not listening to them till now.

So what kind of direction did they take here ? Coming from a guy who really likes Diadem, can't get into Black Cascade and sees Celestite as a "you do you WITTR !" : )

It doesn't really sound like anything else they've done so you gotta just give it a listen.

FearThyEvil, you should probably jam Diadem and Two Hunters first since those capture their foundational sound. I think going backwards would take the context away from their evolution, which to me was for the worse anyways.

This album is better than the previous three though

Black Cascade gives this a run for its money, and comparing this to Celestite seems odd to me, but definitely a more interesting album than Celestial Lineage. I don't think they'll ever top Two Hunters, but that album is a classic.

I also think it's surprising to see Two Hunters so low in peoples lists considering it's usually considered their landmark work. After listening to this release I think I'll just start going back through their discography, it's been a while since I've done that for Wolves, I may see things in a new context now. Regardless, I'm seeing Wolves for the third time along with Pillorian on October 25th and I'm super excited. I bet these new songs are going to rip live, and I've yet to see Pillorian who as an Agalloch fanboy I really love. I'll also have to give the National a listen, Indie being a genre I admittedly haven't really explored too much, and I keep seeing great reviews for them on this site. One day commenting on this site and I've already got a list of albums to listen to!

I'm going to the show on October 11th in Richmond. I am incredibly excited about WITTR and Pillorian playing together. It's going to be an amazing experience for sure.

As much as I love the Steve Von Till Neurosis moment on the second track, you have to admit it sounds so damn forced.

I can't get enough of this. The doomy breakdown that rounds out Angrboda is wicked. And the back half of the closer is perfect.

Anyone else think Black Cascade is their best? Few seem to share that opinion.

Black Cascade is also my favorite by a slim margin. I like their first four albums almost equally though, for different reasons.

I just find the production on it very unique, especially the guitar tone. Gives the album a very interesting sound overall. Crystal Ammunition is probably my all time favorite song by WITTR
