Yeah record's totally grand. For something that's relatively straightforward by Xiu Xiu standards, this took quite awhile to really feel out

They just put out a repressing of this, looks nice

Totally forgot about this band. Apparently I rated ´Forget´ a long time in the past which is ironic. This is different though, vocals are something else

Is there anything more unbelievable than the percussion in 20,000 deaths?

I think this is maybe my 4th fave Xiu Xiu, need to full discog run these guys to double-check though
Putting it on my ‘to-do’ list for the new year, as I haven’t heard them all yet

I wouldn’t rush. The discogs are so tough to get through. It’s all about the bangers with xiu xiu

Heard 8 of 14 already, shouldn’t be too taxing
The Air Force, Knife Play & Angel Guts are essential front-to-back albums

Always felt like one of the sadder Xiu records (ofc with the context behind)
But it's really breaking my heart rn god damn

Even the sad xiu xiu songs make me happy because of the batshit crazy composition. With exception to maybe suha

Yeah, some of them def feel like they bring a sort of incongruously heartwarming element by acknowledging how dark things can get (Apistat Commander big time)
But some just sound like they've had the life sucked out of them (Air Force has quite a few good ones in that vein, but Sad Pony Guerrilla Girl, Walnut House, Ian Curtis Wishlist and that fucking desiccated Fast Car cover on here all do the same for me)
And then stuff like Anne Dong and Luber really seem like they do better than most other stuff of capturing how all this fucked up shit starts when you're a kid and not prepared to understand any of it. And then the ending of Faith, Torn Apart comes back years later and plunges that even deeper into darkness

Also porcupine it doesn’t make me sad because I can relate. It feels good to have someone validate your feelings. (Aside from all the anal sex stuff haha)

Xiu Xiu hits these feels several times an album, so although there’s varying consistency in their song-writing chops, they are certainly very capable of striking chords that few acts can. Knife Play is almost wall-to-wall emotional resonance simply due to the strength of the overall package lending itself to that immersion.
I mean, they have outstanding material elsewhere, but that must be why I connect with that one the most. I can vibe with it without potential ‘interruption’. Admittedly I could do with revisiting a few (again), this probably being one that requires further inspection. This being on the ‘darker’ side likely gives it an advantage over many of their others. Part of the reason why Angel Guts is a strong release for me personally too.

Def worth it, this one probably took the longest to grow on me out of all their stuff, even if people seem to jump to reccing this one as a starting point, thought it was lower level Xiu (still great) until fairly recently

This just has apostate commander and 20,000 deaths on it the most creative and incredible songs ever written. The rest can go pound sand although pony is alright
