I feel like it has more punch. I know a lot of people really like the production on the original but I prefer this, it suits Converge's style better. After being slightly dissatisfied with the album for many years the fact this release even exists justifies my own feelings towards the original.

Eh they both really do the job for me

The band were frustrated by the original recording because they felt it was rushed (so they could go on tour). I didn't know this at the time.

That's what I meant, the fact Converge themselves thought this release was necessary justifies any complains about the original's production.

I would disagree there. Jane Doe definitely could use a remaster but they insist that they don't feel it needs one. On the other hand, I feel YFM was perfect as is and that this Redux is mostly unnecessary, but still enjoyable. In that regard, I feel the band is incorrect.

It's fine to think the band are incorrect of course, no problem there. I just thought it was kind of cool I agreed without (at the time) realising it.

Ah fair enough! Either way, I'm glad the Redux has brought in new fans to the album.

yeah for some reason even though I can sort of conceptually hold on to the fact that there's something special about the original I still just listen to this and love it more every time. it's all good though, the original is great too

This (the original) was initially a rushed recording job apparently, they wanted to re-record it. I don’t think that’s the case with Jane so doubt it’ll happen. Definitely isn’t necessary as far as I’m concerned.

Nah. It pains me to agree with Snide on something but.. it needs a remaster.

I would be interested to hear a version of Jane Doe recorded like this/atf/etc. not asking for it, but intrigued

Exactly. There’s already two versions & one (the original) is basically perfect. I guess some people said that about this album.

How would Ballou approach Jane Doe differently? “I’d love to remix it, it sounds kinda soupy to me, there’s not a lot of distinction between the parts even though it’s really bright.”

I stumbled upon this and immediately thought of our discussion and figured I should share it here.
