at least you didn't pay $45 for the bonus edition just to maybe get a CD in advance

idk if this was any other band i really dont see it getting the same reception. not saying people wouldnt like it or w/e

there's pop appeal to this album so people are gonna hate. but there's a lot of gorgeous instrumentals and so much in a similar vein as their past material but stronger. I know this phrase gets thrown around a lot, but this is an album you have to listen to a few times closely to understand

To be honest, I did not like this the first few times... and if it wasn't. Rand New I doubt I would have given it as many chances as I have. In the sense, maybe I do only like it because it's brand new.
There's probably a lot of good music out there that I never give any of my time to because I'm not familiar with the band. Like the new national album is supposed to be pretty good? Wouldn't know.
This same thing has happened to me before. I didn't like scurrilous because it didn't sound like fortress, but because it was PtH I kept listening. Now it's one of my favorite of theirs. Hated neck of the woods because it didn't sound like their previous albums. Kept listening because it was silversun. Now it's in my top ten. there's is some truth to that accusation
on the other hand, I've given albums multiple chances because I love the band and they never click. Like the newest silversun album,,, hate it. New A lot like birds, hate. Every circa survive after juturna... hate them.

Yeah I try and become familiar with bands before trying out the new music, hopefully to avoid instantly writing them/it off till months or even years later. I repeat, try. Doesn't always work out lol. I enjoyed this when it first came out though, but it did take quite a few listens for me to actually like a lot of it.
I need to re-listen to Scurrilous myself actually, haven't given that a proper spin in a long time.

I like it because it's good, not because of who it's by. If you think the alternative, you are wrong and a dumbass. Good day sir

True story, first time I heard a The National album I was like "ehhh this is a 3 at best". Now look at me go - I pretty much worship the toilet paper they wipe their asses with. Perseverance is invaluable

The encore of Soco is orgasmic, especially the ad lib at the end

That's an insane set, I will lose my mind at the Baltimore show if they do the same thing. I'd love to hear Quiet Things and Archers but it's still a great list

also the "I wanna be a heretic" bit in Lit Me Up is straight up creepy when it's chanted by a bunch of fans, this is how Jesse starts a cult

probably the same reason they don't play Seventy Times Seven, maybe they just don't like playing their "hits"

I'm so fucking mad that the show near me sold out before I got a chance. Will have to settle for watching their legacy fade into the sunset on youtube.
Yeah I know what you mean about the 'heretic' part -- really cool, but creepy. Did anyone check the encore version of 'Soco Amaretto Lime'?
