Uneven in what sense? Musically, thematically, or just generally in terms of quality? That's interesting.

"As with the Titus comparisons, at least this guy can sing LOLOLOLOL"

stickles can't sing but he's like this drunken, manic depressive storyteller with a ton of charisma. i definitely vibe with his voice.

Quality. Keep me Open is subtle and moving. But Atlas Drowned is just rambly and inconsequential. L'Imaginare is totally unecessary, the Do not let your spirit wane is beautiful again, Go Farther in Lightness is superflous and Achilles come down is trying WAY, WAY to hard, Persevere sounds like a (bad) The National B-Side... you get the picture.

But that said. Keep me Open, Do not let your spirit wane and The Deepest of Sighs the frankest of Shadows are three fantastic songs.

Keep Me in the Open, Deepest Sighs, Atlas Drowned, and Fear and Trembling are all straight masterpieces in my book

Achilles and Persevere are probably my two least favorites actually

achilles is like a 1/5 song for me. I don't think i've ever made it to the end aside from my first listen.

This just makes me want to listen to good titus and springsteen albums tbh. Also hate how this guy replaces 'r's with 'w's - ie: when he says "pwesent"

Album is great... but far from perfect. Some tracks go on for too long, others climax too quickly, others take forever to get somewhere. Musically a lot of the mixing to me just bleeds together at times with a wall of springsteen sound. I really really dig this, but it's not a 5/5, and I feel bad for saying that because I've been loving the shit out of this. Just if I was viewing this as a producer there's plenty of stuff I'd want to toy with to make it that much better.

JWT I get what you are saying, its not a perfect album. But I think it deserves a 5 because its so massive, so ambitious, so well done in almost every aspect. It really is a massive project, and a true masterpiece IMO. I mean, the White album is a masterpiece and that has like 9 shitty songs. Not that I'm saying this is better than that, but you get the point.

Persevere is definitely bottom of the barrel, but Achilles is amazing and continues to get better.

I don't know that I've ever encountered a perfect album, but this is one of the special ones for me.

I'll completely agree with your point Hans and I respect the 5 rating. Even to put it in terms of films, there's movies that have some terrible scenes/acting/special effects that are still 5/5 for me and wonderfully done. This is a beast of a record and for a young band I give them all the props in the world for pulling it off.
