That guitar in Out of Mana actually reminds me of The Infection - era Chimaira. A weird comparison but that's what I'm hearing.

i'm still listening to the 61 minute track but if i had to pick favs i'd go with batter up and in the water. i don't even know when 137 shows up but i'll try to spot it next round. it's a very consistent record and i wouldn't cut anything

I liked 451 and the ending part of Out of Mana. I want to enter an alternate dimension where this album was just released by some random band and see the scores.

^ this, the average would be a 3.7 probably

While I'm usually not a fan of that kind of logic there doesn't seem to be anything here that's like "only this band could have made this" so it's conceivable to think of it as being released by an outsider.

If this album wasn't released by Brand New it would have like 5 votes

i completely agree Boney, would sit around a 3.7/3.8 if it was another band but part of the reason this is so so good is because it encapsulates Brand New's career perfectly so it's hard to separate. without that context tho this is a low 4 imo

I noticed in youtube comments that Brand New fans are one of three things. A. So excited that they are literally shaking and going to cry. B. Bashing everyone who says that they didn't enjoy it that much. C. Glad they didn't kill themselves.

That's passion and I like it

the context can't be discounted or divorced from the work here. it's obviously going to be evaluated with consideration for the 8 year gap and the fanbase reaching adulthood. i wouldn't introduce this band to anyone over the age of 25, they're wholly unnecessary once you've hit that marker. but for the kids who soundtracked their teen and young adult years with brand new this album has special resonance and carries a satisfying sense of completion.

I mean I listened to Brand New growing up as well. When I was like 15 or so I think is when I started listening to them. I just have issues nowadays getting excited for things. I wish I still had a passion for new things coming out but, it really isn't there anymore. Currently, I tend to just go with the flow and like what I like and dislike what I dislike.
