"Doesn't help that SW himself tries to push that notion, because this really isn't crazy different from his norm. It's just another Steven Wilson album, and he doesn't like repeating himself. Makes me wish he said less about it and just released it without the superfluous self-press and single releases."

I felt the same way also. I enjoyed it (I prefer H.C.E. right now personally), but honestly I thought it was gonna challenge what to me sounds like "familiar" territory for SW's music...or at least, I thought it was going to be a significant departure for him like how In Absentia was a notable departure in sound from Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun.

Come to think of it, I personally liken this as being the Lightbulb Sun to H.C.E.'s Stupid Dream. I don't mean that in a bad way either.

I think it's pretty accurate comparing this to Lightbulb Sun, maybe moreso than Stupid Dream. Stripped down structurally, straightforward, yet still goes out on a few limbs.

I don't think we'll ever see a full on album cycle PT reunion. I feel like the members, especially Steven, have just outgrown the project.

I'd love to see a No-Man reunion first anyway.

I'm midway through this and I just feel like it's not a really good record, without thinking of this prog/nonprog nonsense. The lyrics are silly, the composition sometime is lazy, and this 80's synth layer is, really, just a layer. Could have been something more. I've been finding myself skipping though tracks, which is something I never do. Still have to finish it so maybe something will change.

@Cunt999 because everyone who gives a positive review is a fanboy

The problem with this is not the fact that's a pop album with some 80's or cheesy vibe at times instead of a prog release

the problem is in the execution of that concept

Second half is better, but still I don't think is a great record as a whole. Maybe will grow on me.

Really excited to jam the bonus disc. Fans are really liking it.

Also this has been #41 on iTunes top 100 which is neat. It'll probably be his best-selling album so far.

Detonation isn't as explosive (I'm a hack writer) as I would've hoped but still enjoyed.

I like the In Absentia sound of PWHD, lyrics and all
