also I apologize if it seemed like I was chastising gay people specifically for being so curious. to me the whole thing seems like a tabloid news kinda deal which is what I was more upset about. obviously it means something very different for the gay community and it makes sense to me now but you have to understand where I was coming from

it's just so frustrating, hearing stories like colton haynes', having to have a fake girlfriend for the sake of having a career in the business.
you can even tell tyler is shy about the subject, even when he seemingly 'joking' about it a lot. he's super straight (heh) and upfront about any subject but his sexuality, to which he responds with this facade of being out while simultaneously avoiding discussing it

that guardian article on the other page was straight trash. white gays writing articles about homophobia in hip-hop is always cause for cringe
as for this album, i'll say an artist has no obligation to advance anyone's political agenda. let him speak his truth or obfuscate it however he likes. critique this as an artistic work rather than projecting expectations of LGBT activism or representation onto it

"white gays writing articles about homophobia in hip-hop is always cause for cringe"
and you are black? when will you talk about it tho? such a stupid statement
"as for this album, i'll say an artist has no obligation to advance anyone's political agenda"
being able to be who you are in public is political agenda, ok
"critique this as an artistic work rather than projecting expectations of LGBT activism or representation onto it"
who's criticising it that way

why is this such a drag to communicate. i think the artistic quality of this album is really strong but when someone who uses the word faggot 200+ times on a debut project and then refuses clarity for the gay community as to if he's really gay or not it stings! it really does! i just want to be able to see and hear myself in the music i listen to and i don't care if tyler is or isn't that person, but when it's posited as if he is im going to be skeptical
also @con no need to apologize, i appreciate your perspective and am glad u communicated it!

"you don't get it, but i guess you don't have to. you don't have to like it, but you're also not part of the community"
"i think the artistic quality of this album is really strong but when someone who uses the word faggot 200+ times on a debut project and then refuses clarity for the gay community as to if he's really gay or not it stings!"
Tyler owes nothing to the gay community.

alex: i was referring to conmaniac
also, using the word faggot as a straight man is kinda taboo, in case u didn't notice
|

"using the word faggot as a straight man is kinda taboo"
Yes, faggot is a really touchy word in hip hop. Historically so.

seems that when gay people call themselves fags on this website it's met with more skepticism than when a formerly presumed straight musician uses it literally hundreds of times in their music
|
| |
also, using the word "beer" in country music is kinda taboo, in case u didn't notice
|
| |
Idk I just feel like some people are forcing Tyler onto a pedestal that he doesn't necessarily need to be on, and as of right now doesn't seem like he wants to be on.

cool opinion
|
| |
it's not moral judgment what we want, it's being sure he is confident in who he is, something gay people can struggle with
again, colton haynes, etc, etc
|

also, using the word nigga in hip hop is kinda taboo, in case you didn't notice
