Those two are very different though, can't really compare something like Vangelis' Blade Runner to this. Both are classics to me.

It wasn't a comparison, more just preference of style in ost.

Recently i re-watched this film and i had (again) the time of my life. Then I thought about reviewing its soundtrack and i came here only to see it is reviewed already. And i'm glad for that. It's easily one of the very best soundtracks i have ever heard. God bless Jerry and may he rest in peace. Must have seen this film around 50 times and i always have a good time watching it. Brendan Fraser was the indiana jones of my generation. The movie is a great blend of humor and action and the CGI has aged gracefully. In my mind, it's a classic movie.

Awesome movie! Very enjoyable and it's awesome to see Brendan Fraser is making a sort of comeback these days! The soundtrack is brilliant and this review nailed it.

The soundtrack for the sequel is horribly forgettable dogshit... kinda like the film itself

That sequel wasn't that bad but it was really forgettable imo. It had horrible cgi and the soundtrack (which wasn't written by Goldsmith) was subpar. Also, I hated how they removed the horror elements from the final film. It was miles better that the horrible 3rd film though, which, in turn was also much better than the tom cruise reboot one.

I'd argue it's as egregious as the third one. Removing the horror elements from the film and making it aim at just family audiences was the worst move they could have made. But shit soundtrack and the tone of the film aside, the story was just bizarre. The reincarnation storyline just didn't work imo, and that kid man...
I read an idea someone had for the IP ages ago that would have been wonderful. It would have made Universal's Monster Universe they failed miserably at making eighteen years later, too. The idea was that the cast of The Mummy (1999) go on adventures around the world and get caught up with Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon, etc, etc. I always felt like The Mummy had said what it needed to and the other films just didn't know where to go from there. This approach would have retained the chemistry from that film but made it all feel fresh with every sequel. Gutted they never thought of it tbh.

The o connor family on adventures, killing every monster there is? That would be fucking awesome. But it would kill the characters story a little bit. I mean how does an egyptologist gets tangled up with the mysteries of transylvania and Dracula? It doesn't make much sense. But i would love to see Fraser's character killing all those monsters, and saying at the beginning of every adventure "HERE WE GO AGAIN" 😂
Hilarious line, btw!

Well, the idea of a shared universe of films is a concept still kinda fresh and wasn't a thing back then. And imo it hasn't been explored to its full potential just yet. Back then you could go and make a sequel or two if you could bring enough money to the table. And it was still difficult to make it up to a 3rd film. Just look how long it took them to film a 3rd movie and how bad it ended up. Since no one was obliged by contract, the character of evelyn was played by a different actor because Rachel had other obligations. Filming a shared universe is not the easiest thing to do and requires a lot planning and preparation beforehand.
Yet it was hardly a concept in the late 90's/early 00's.
