I like this but I also don't really feel the need to listen to it ever again.

Me too...my rating will slowly decline over time I think. Right now it's prob like a 3.8-4.0 just haven't changed the rating.

I'm not usually one to do this sort of thing but I might edit this down to a shorter, more digestible playlist... Cut the ambient tracks and maybe one or two of the longer ones... Earth as well because even though I like it a lot it tests the patience to put it near the end.

Earth and Mercury are the two I'll come back to most probably, Mercury is just gorgeous and Earth serves as a nice microcosm for the whole album.

for me it's the stretch from Venus to Sun that needs the most work. Mars has pretty cool songwriting but the vocoder effects are overkill on it, and the other tracks around it are just liminal space. Rest of the album is decent at worst.

Yeah I wish there were more untreated Sufjan vocals. I get that the vocoder is used for effect but most of the time I'd rather just hear his normal voice.

This is reminding me I really need to listen to Age of Adz but I'm worried I'll have similar feelings about that as this. Between this and his Christmas stuff I'm not a big fan of Suf's electronic work.

age of adz is great and its really still rooted in his folk-songwriting style

Adz has better hooks than this but also feels more bloated at points. It's riskier and the highs are higher than what's on here but the lows are also lower imo.

Why such a 180 Doof?

Well he told me he didn't like it at first so he did more of a 360 than a 180.
