Well chuck since it was originally a live performance the length is understandable.

Plus I think the scope is sort of supposed to reflect the vastness of the solar system or something.

what happens when esteemed musicians get together without anyone shooting down bad ideas.. not enough editing, but pleasant overall..

seems like it was a decent idea that was just a bit too ambitious, ends up being too long, too monotonous, a bit forced (like much of stevens' material)

but yeah its nice, some songs are really good, i like mercury

As this was unlistenable on the first rotation I won't go back to it again

Jupiter is my favorite from this although Mercury is the most beautiful. This is great but already starting to grow off me, might bump down to a regular old 4. Still excellent either way.

Um. I know what it's trying to do and it achieves it to some degree. But the flow is so unusual and I don't know. I don't really have much of a reason to not enjoy it but I can't dig it like I usually do.

I can only imagine how many pretentious reviews there are of this thing comparing it to Holst

I'm guessing a fair few. Whilst it has the orchestral thing going on fairly constantly, I never got anything like that from this, so I never wanted to even go there.
