Agreed hard. Song finishes where ''Proclamation'' starts. They would be a great suite song together.

Ok Jethro. I respect your opinions, as you know. However, and as I said before, I can't see the same weak points on the album, as you do. Besides and as you know, I don't like discuss the individual tracks on a prog album, especially when we are talking about conceptual albums. As you know, for me, a conceptual piece worths as a whole. I realy can't separate the traks on it. Maybe this is a problem of mine, but this is what I think. Anyway, 4.5 is an excellent rating.

Thanks pal and you'll be always very welcome with your comments on my reviews.

Cheers, bro.

I understand what you mean, but it's a bunch of individual tracks nonetheless, and it's normal that some tracks are weaker than some others. That also occurs into any epic suite song, for instance.

Finally, I think there are enough to appreciate in this album to keep my rating intact. The biggest let down for me is the dubious multi-part vocal harmomies in ''No God's A Man''. ''The Face'' gets on my nerve at times, but it's decent.

Ok, I can see your point of view and sometimes we can disagree a bit. Don't we? Ah, Ah, Ah,...

Yep, like there's better scenes and worse scenes in a movie there's better and worse songs on a concept album. Just because all songs tell a coherent story that's not a reason to be uncritical. Maybe I wouldn't feel the need to point that out if No Gods A Man wasn't by far my least favorite on here ^^

I didn't said that. What I said is that I don't discuss individual tracks on a conceptual album. But this is my personal feelings. Of course I know that most all the albums have best and worse tracks, even if they're about a concept. I've no problem with it.

That is what RikRoach is saying; it's not because a song comes from a great concept album that it is automatically good. It could have its flaws and can be criticized. But I know where you're coming from, e21; You think that a respectable concept album resides in its flow rather than in its individual songs.

I love the harmony vocals on "no gods a man" and that opening chord progression is pure bliss! Gotta love the funky keyboard line in the verse too

The more I listen to that one, the more I find that it drags. And it's not supposed to be ''No Man's a God''? xD

I think it means that the protagonist puts himself over God, as in believig he has the authority over right and wrong, so no god's a man because no god is him and he stands above every god. That's how I read it anyway. It's kind of a pun on the figure of speech

That makes sense, Rik. So where are you with the GG discog? Does it progress? ;)

''Ok, I can see your point of view and sometimes we can disagree a bit. Don't we?''

Yes you're right e21, mostly when it comes to rating albums, you're always kinda more generous than me. But about the discussions, we usually end up coming to an agreement ;)

Hahah, please don't expect me to rush through their albums, I like to take my time, so no, not any progression yet :} Listening to a new GG album has to stay kind of an event for me, so it won't happen on a too regular basis ... but expect me to listen to more new stuff by them over the course of the next few weeks :D

There are so much appealing material left for you to discover, I couldn't wait if I were you. I just looked at your profile and remarked you are fond of progressive metal. There are a lot to love there too. Kamelot, Shadow Gallery, Symphony X, Ayreon, Psychotic Waltz, Pain of Salvation, etc... I'd have to revisit that genre a bit.

Yeah, be sure to listen to Orphaned Land's Mabool, it's an underappreciated masterpiece beyond descriptors

Kamelot is probably my personal favorite band btw, even though they are more like their own special brand of power metal rather than progressive metal

Yeah I remember enjoying Kamelot. I've only heard Karma, Epica and The Black Halo. I have to refresh my memory though.

I think I've heard Mabool once. If it's the case, I'm no sure about my impressions there either. Will pay more attention to it. Thanks for the rec.

Then you know their three best albums, but Ghost Opera is also brilliant, a very colorful album full of diversity. The best thing about their discography is how they maganed to surpass their last album !six times in a row!

And yeah, give Mabool another try, it' s so special

@ Jethro

"You think that a respectable concept album resides in its flow rather than in its individual songs."

Yes, it's true. But even more than that. I think that in a concept album it's not only the lyrics that matter in the concept. I think also the music must have a concept, too. It means that both, lyrics and music must be married with each other and both contributes by equally to the concept. We know that there are differents ways to do that. For instance on many of those albums the groups made different musics on the tracks according to the conceptual story. But in other cases, the bands prefer have a main theme that appears thru all the album, at times. It comes to my mind in this moment "A Pleasant Shade Of Gray" of Fates Warning. In this case, "The Power And The Glory", we have the oppening and the closing tracks as the same theme with a white or light side on the first track and the black or dark side on the last one. It only reflects the optimism that we have in the beggining of the concept and the pessimism in the end, showing that the guy turned in what he fought against, in a corrupt dictator, too. It represents the end of the initial hope.

"mostly when it comes to rating albums, you're always kinda more generous than me."

You're right. So, I'm not really worried with your rating of the album. Ah, Ah, Ah,...

"But about the discussions, we usually end up coming to an agreement"

I agree. And I've no doubt that it will be the same in this case. At least, I'm sure that you perfectly understand my point of view, agree or disagree you with it.

Cheers.
