With all the Ulcerate comparisons ITT ("Ulcerate-lite") I was expecting something like Karmacipher or Setentia but what I got what a cross between Nero di Marte and the new Job for a Cowboy with some TDOA-esque jangly bits on top.

not for this specifically hawks, i was just riffing off of jac's "automatic rating" joke.

3.5 it anyway. I know you want it. Slapping a 3.5 on something is the most satisfying feeling tbh.

Well the two bands I likened this to have been compared to the Ulcerate as well so what I'm saying is the comparisons are superficial at best.

Biggest difference between the two is the rhythm section; if you take away the leads, Ulcerate have never written songs like Diminish, Moirae or Unveil. There's also a lack of dynamic contrast that I'd expect from Ulcerate.
I mean the similarities are there, some parts feel like a straight rip off of ~softer~ tracks like "Beneath", but it's still far from "Ulcerate-lite".
And I think I'll give this a good ol' 2.5.

Well I think part of the reason why this seems like a weaker Ulcerate is because it still sounds like the band if they dumbed down their sound a bit. Of course I'm no Ulcerate master so you're probably right

I'd say there are definitely discreet differences between all of their albums, but they aren't massive to be fair.
