I said I never read any of their previous lyrics, not that I've never listened to their previous stuff. I've heard every A Lot Like Birds album because I used to want to like them back when I was getting into music in their style, but never enjoyed their work.

Maybe you'll have changed your mind!

I miss plan b

Nah I actually went back to their last album right after listening to this one and if anything I found it to be duller than ever. Serious snoozefest.

oh ok, my misunderstanding then. I do think the lyrics on No Place were generally a bit ahead of this (although t/t and From Moon to Son have some great lines)

I was secretly hoping some of that Plan B sound would make a return here. Alas..

what do you think of the title track, xingy? I thought it was a great way to end that has little elements of everything they've done. there's also just a whiff of Plan B when that brass bit kicks in on No Attention although it's far too short unfortunately
most of this is growing on me but I still find Sound and Atoms almost unlistenable, those should have been cut

"This one repeated line opens and closes DIVISI, the long-awaited fourth album by A Lot Like Birds, and also acts a statement of purpose for the record as a whole. "
if it opens and closes the album then that tells me its repeated. Telling us the line is repeated seems a tad redundant. just a small observation. Would read better to me as "this one line opens and closes divisi", but hey, swings and roundabouts

I went through the band's discography to see why everyone has been bashing the singles dropped from this and was left pretty underwhelmed. The band is very good at making awesome moments but sucks at writing songs. There wasn't a single moment on this record that matched some of the crap pulled off on prior records but I ended up enjoying this more than anything they've yet put out because I felt like I was listening to fleshed-out compositions from start to finish.
Decent album. Could have done with a little more energy.

@Row: The title track was probably the best song as a whole and the closest to being "good". The last four songs are the best on the album for sure.

Same as Crypto.
Heard these guys while on a Kurt Travis binge and I really wanted to like their old stuff and couldn't. Fine musicians, not-as-great songwriters? Nothing stood out at all on their old records.
And while the first half of this album has moments of similar homogeneity (short of the two singles which I love and everyone else seems to hate), it really kicks into another gear on Infinite Chances onward.
Specifically, the last 3 songs are some of my favorites of the year so far.
A lot more cohesive. Passionate vocals and a knack for blissful melodies are a combo I'm finding less and less these days but I totally adore. On this album they show some real glimpses of brilliance in those areas that I wish were a little more consistent. But on the whole, amazing.

If I had staff powers this would be a 2.8, the last four songs are the best

dreading listening to this but at the same time really excited cos the singles were pretty good. Kurt Travis looks and sounds like Ben from Armor for Sleep

If you liked the singles you'll love it, but it's pretty weak imo

Far as I could tell the lead member had a pretty high opinion of himself, unsurprisingly he fell on his face. I'll give em a fair shot but my expectations aren't too low.

Singles are the best part of the first half by a very very long measure. Then the second half of the album slays.
