Beautiful review. Haven't listened to Carrie & Lowell in quite a while.

I need this, the studio album is painfully beautiful. I feel a mixture of fearand hype to hear this

This is just as amazing as the studio version, and fans shouldn't have anything to fear haha. It's just a live version with some added flair and instrumentation.
Excellent review Sowing

Is it not like twice as long though?

"'We're all gonna die' sung over an upbeat, noisy music in the ending of 'Fourth of July' is hilarious."
I thought that part was a highlight.

It's a catch-22. People will either complain that it sounds identical to the original or they won't be happy with the re-imagined versions. Personally I'd take different - even if it's a swing and a miss, at least there's something to be potentially gained from listening.

I had no idea this was out. I saw you listening to it on Spotify yesterday and it was a nice surprise.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed most of the album and was pleasantly surprised by how different it was from the original. However, I do think that in some places, like the ending of "Fourth of July", Sufjan got a bit carried away and maybe forgot about what some of these songs mean. On a purely musical level, it all works though.

sure hope this is legitimately good and not just an overreaction to a genuinely perfect studio album.

I can see that...not every choice is bound to resonate with all listeners.

Don't worry it's good. I am not going to postulate whether you'll like it more than the studio version (I don't), but it makes a very smooth translation to the live setting and Stevens does nothing to ruin the record's magic.

I enjoyed the actual album (if I can use the word "enjoy" for this), and wasn't too sure with the idea of a live album. You've caught my interest though so I'll give it a listen.
