Very good review, just one thing though: "group almost broke up while in the studio"

This is untrue, the studio conditions put them under a lot of pressure but they never came close to disbanding. The group actually admit the biggest fight they ever had was about the air conditioning on the bus during the BWP tour.

if you remember this then you should also remember Mikael saying "I thought it was going to be the end of Opeth it was so bad"

This is an essential Opeth album. It was my first from them and ill admit it took me a couple listens to grasp what was so great about this band. Once I did get into it I listened to it nonstop for a couple weeks and had to pick up Watershed, which is just as solid. Ghost reveries was a bit of a let down though...

I just listened to Deliverance last night, particularly because of the outside atmosphere: gloomy, humid, dank, wet. Perfect for this. So after that, I read back up on what the Encyclopedia Metallum reviews said...and I found this comedic gem:

"While not the greatest Opeth release to date it is still a very strong, solid, and overall well written album both musically and atheistically."

Whoops! I must need to repent and sin no more! That error got me to LOL. Never rely on Spellcheck!

Nah, I'd say it really is their weakest.

Most underrated was probably Orchid until Heritage came out.

To each his own but in my opinion this is better than Heritage or Damnation.

Those are their weakest efforts imo. Need to listen Orchid though.

Aside from Heritage this is easily their worst record.

This > Blackwater Park

Mainly because the production is actually listenable here.
