it says what it says

What does that have to do with what I said? That's just about playing the album live.
|
| |
Is the nomenclature referring to the album name or what? I'm confused

the band preferred to release the album under the "toby driver" name cuz they couldn't play it live, it's a simple choice
ovdeath: ", hence the nomenclature."

Love this album. Haven't listened to Library Loft in a few years, but knowing it's basically a Kayo Dot record (assuming similar band mates?), I'll have to listen to now. Also Pots why don't you like the name? It refers to the madonna-whore complex ("inability to maintain sexual arousal within a committed, loving relationship"). Great review, mate!

Yeah Library Loft was made with all the Kayo Dot members (at the time)

Yeah this is his first real solo album, and sounds like nothing he's really done before. The other albums in his name are basically collabs with KD members or others, and some random soundtracks.

listening via stereo and his vox sound pretty annoying, often almost out-of-sync with the music even.

"Toby Driver molds somewhat customary song structures to his liking, indulging in some beautiful guitar solos"
Toby didn't play the guitar solo on Craven's Dawn. Ron Varod did
(he made a Facebook post about it)

gonna also include: "Madonnawhore" is not my first eponymous album, 2005's "In the L..L..Library Loft" is. Both albums feature members of Kayo Dot, and both are in equal amounts "solo" albums."
and, "The album is not *about* the madonna-whore complex. It is simply a lens behind other lenses. "Avignon" for example is not about a woman, as it may seem on the surface. Think, what was Avignon?"

this seems fucking pretentious as shit

It is not pretentious at all.
Also, "dio knew rock
toby driver know cock" [2]
except not really.

I suppose library loft will never be a solo album even if Toby says so himself in a Facebook post

Thanks hesperus
I saw the post too Johnny. I'm glad he clarified those things, because the music articles about his music is what's stating most of the errors he mentioned, which is too bad, especially for an independent artist.
Also the nature of the Library Loft album is super vague: the official bandcamp page for it says that yes it's a solo album, but might as well be a Kayo Dot album for all intents and purposes. Even one of the biggest KD fanboys on the site, OvDeath, was convinced that it wasn't a real solo album, so I'm glad Driver cleared that up.

Idk in older interviews he's said he viewed it more as a Kayo Dot album but I may have misinterpreted his words. If he considers it his first solo album now for compositional reasons even that seems fair, since I do believe he does a great deal of the writing in all his projects regardless, so the only thing even splitting them up isn't member performance but compositional approach? Idk either way this album is rlly good and so is Library Loft

Does this sound anything like Coffins on Io? I presume not as Toby is always switching up his sound with every record.
