The flak these guys have gotten for their past few projects; getting a 4/5 wit 150 votes on the sput? What is this and where do I listen cuz I don't believe it.

I been blasting the fuck out of this since a friend was nice enough to give me a promo copy of it. Waiting on the vinyl to arrive when the album officially release. Such a killer album

Yeah it's real god, Word to the Wise brings that classic noodly Mastodon riffage I love.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great review but it reads like a 4.5 rather than a 4. With that said, I agree with pretty much everything here, including how there are no fillers to be found. Even Show Yourself, though slightly subpar, is still a catchy decent song.

Two criticisms I have on the album are 1. the sequencing. Show Yourself definitely feels as an outsider so the album doesn't really seem to propel until Precious Stones.

And 2. some songs could've had more sludgy growls for a heavier punch. I get they are trying to get away from screaming and stuff, but there are some intense moments here where they could recall their early style more. Following that line, Troy sounds weaker here for some reason.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Also want to note that I didn't go full-on with any outright negatives because there really weren't any.

I guess it's pretty subtle, but I was basically raving about this in the context of Mastodon having gone more mainstream, like the absence of sludginess or screaming, and with all the catchy choruses. This is good as it gets from them being so popular now.

Yeah I flip flop between this or The Hunter being their best of this decade.

Positive vibes here Ford
