A Broken Frame deserves a shot for its melancholic vibes that even sound like a Gameboy soundtrack in places. Def underrated imo.

ya overall it might be their weakest yet it's got some killer tracks i.e. Leave In Silence, My Secret Garden, & The Sun and The Rainfall

See You is also kinda funny and has a fuckin' "barbershop" chorus on a Depeche Mode song so that's something

Also Nothing to Fear is a killer instrumental track, Shouldn't Have Done That has a great atmosphere (especially 1:00~2:00) and Monument is pleasantly haunting. Definitely not their darkest album but still good for some gloomy pop. It has a couple happy sounding songs but even them aren't really happy. A major improvement over the debut imo and I'll take it over the last 3 and Exciter.

Now you've just gone much too far, Buster Brown!

Nah I love the melancholy that permeates that album, like the first 20 seconds of My Secret Garden or the theme that enters at 0:45 in Sun & Rainfall. Or that section of Shouldn't Have Done That that I mentioned.

I think Exciter is their worst

going back to this now I like it a lot more than I did when it came out

Exciter is the underdog of their discography, imo. & by some margin, assuming we're classing Ultra as a great record not fully appreciated on release, by this point

really don't know what's going on with Corbijn as of late tho. his album covers went from being some of the best of all time (Violator, Songs of Faith, Playing the Angel) to this fuckin' lackluster, "first college project" shit

Fortunately, quality of the actual music itself is a bit higher than the image packaging it!

DM is my favourite band ever, but now that you mention it they kinda do have bad album art lol

Music for the Masses and Playing the Angel have good cover art, other than that...
PS: This is underrated.
