This album is great, excellent musicianship here and they melted the choirs and stuff perfectly (otherwise this sort of ambience ends up being cheesy and boring)
They are never drawn out for longer then they should, threatening to wear down on its black metal origins.
What do you mean by that? There are plenty of long-ish (7-10 minute classic BM songs out there)

Not a metal or black metal kinda guy but holy fuck, this album. It came on randomly from youtube just continuously autoplaying and once I started paying attention to it, it was like taking a brick to the face. But I liked that brick to the face.

This sums up Batushka, Liturgy, Deafheaven or any other garbage fad that has spawned on the "black metal" scene. I don't even wanna call it that because it has nothing to do with black metal, nor do any of the people who enjoy it.

Actually, this as black metal as black metal comes. It doesn't sound traditional, but it's a battle against the orthodox church in Eastern Europe, and nothings more black metal at heart then defiance and fighting religion.
